The Twin Connection. Tuesday, December 09 2008

Ridge and Steffy go to see Phoebe’s body together, Stephanie lets out her anger on Rick, and Steffy says an emotional goodbye to her sister.

Steffy comes to see her father at Taylor’s house who is sitting on the couch by himself. Steffy thinks she should have been there to help him tell Taylor, but Ridge says it’s not her responsibility. Steffy feels like there’s a gaping hole in her and asks what are they going to do without Phoebe. Ridge says they will treasure her memory and keep her with them forever. Steffy asks where Taylor is and Ridge explains that Taylor is in her room and wants to be alone. Steffy wants to be with her, but Ridge thinks she needs some private grieving time. Steffy wonders how Taylor will get over this and Ridge says they will help her and that they will all have to be there for her. Steffy asks if Ridge will be there for her mom and Ridge says of course. Steffy asks about Brooke and Ridge says they will put the wedding on hold and Steffy says she's sorry. Ridge is sorry too, for so many things. Steffy recalls that she had a bad feeling at the party like the wind was knocked out of her and thinks that’s when Phoebe died. It was like she felt Phoebe leave her. Ridge notes their special bond and Steffy says they grew apart, but that bond will always be there. Ridge is happy they got a chance to reconnect and Steffy asks if he was there when Phoebe died. Ridge tells her she sang her song to him and then she slipped away and assures his daughter that Phoebe was very peaceful. Steffy is glad he was with her and that she wasn’t alone. Ridge says Phoebe was surrounded by the love of her family. Steffy asks where Phoebe is now because she wants to see her one last time and Ridge agrees to take her to her sister.

At the mansion, Stephanie is trying to wrap her mind around the fact that Phoebe is dead and Brooke says they are all trying to make sense of it. Stephanie asks Rick about the accident and Rick explains that he lost control of the car. Brooke tries to get Stephanie to back off, but Stephanie wants to understand why her granddaughter is dead. Stephanie continues to grill Rick about the events leading up to Phoebe’s death and Rick tries to explain everything. Things get heated and Brooke breaks things up. She says there will be a time and a place for these questions, but right now they should be praying for Phoebe and her family.

Ridge and Steffy go to the hospital and find the morgue. They see bodies with sheets draped over them and ask a hospital staff member where Phoebe is. The woman offers them Phoebe’s personal things and Steffy starts to cry. Ridge signs for them and the woman hands Ridge a plastic bag and expresses her condolences. After the woman leaves, Ridge opens the bag and finds Phoebe’s purse, shoe, makeup and jewelry as Steffy sobs. Ridge consoles his daughter and then pulls out the hair clip he bought her. Steffy says Phoebe loved it because it made her feel connected to him and Ridge breaks down. Steffy walks over to her sister’s body and pulls the sheet back. She sobs as she sees Phoebe and then walks over to the sink to put water on her scarf so she can clean Phoebe’s scratched up face. Ridge holds Steffy as she does this and Steffy asks for a moment alone.

After Stephanie leaves the terrace, Rick thinks that he will never be able to make things right. Brooke thinks there’s nothing he could have done, but Rick says he shouldn’t have driven off with Phoebe so upset. He says he broke her heart and then he killed her.

Alone with her sister, Steffy asks why she didn’t make Phoebe go to the party with her. Through her tears she says Phoebe would still be there and wonders what she’s going to do without her. She says they always shared everything and she feels like a part of her is dead. She knows she will never be the same, but she also knows Phoebe is there for her and asks, “Right?” She cries uncontrollably and shakes Phoebe’s body as she asks her sister to give her a sign to let her know that she’s still in her heart. When she gets nothing, Steffy lays her head on Phoebe’s body and cries.

Ridge sits outside waiting for Steffy and Stephanie comes to console her son. Ridge says Phoebe is gone and Stephanie gently asks if he was with her when she died. Ridge confirms it and recalls that she was thrown out of the car and was just lying there. He thought he shouldn’t touch her, but he had to hold her and then she died. Stephanie says it’s good he was there with her and assures him that Phoebe knew how much he loved her. Ridge gets angry and wonders how this could have happened. He had driven that road a thousand times and never thought this would be the place where his daughter would end up lying in a ditch. Ridge asks how an accident could take her from them. Stephanie says, “If it was an accident.”
