Jack’s first birthday party causes some problems, Rick confronts Taylor about her feelings for Ridge, and Stephanie tries to play matchmaker.
Alone in bed, Taylor dreams about kissing Ridge, but wakes up to Rick bringing her coffee. He tells her she must have had some dream because she had the most beautiful smile on her face. He calls her the most beautiful fiancée in the world and they make out.
In Ridge and Brooke’s bed, Ridge thinks about his kiss with Taylor and Brooke wakes up and kisses him. They talk about Taylor’s feelings for him and Ridge says she got emotional last night, but didn’t deny still loving him. He thinks she’s still going to marry Rick though and Brooke is worried for her son. Ridge feels bad for Taylor and says today could be especially difficult. Brooke thinks maybe they should have Jack’s first birthday party at their house instead of at Nick’s. Ridge agrees and Brooke calls Nick.
Katie and Nick have the house all decorated for Jack’s birthday when Nick gets the call from Brooke. He nixes the idea of moving the party because the whole house is decorated and Katie is ‘into’ it. Brooke thinks it might be difficult on her sister, but Nick lets her know that Katie is really excited.
Brooke tells Ridge what Nick said and Ridge says he’s all about giving Jack the best life they can, he just wants to do it as far away from Nick as possible.
Nick tells Katie Brooke wanted to have the party at her place, but Katie says it’s therapeutic for her. Katie is grateful they have Jack because she couldn’t get through this without him. She says he’s just like a son to her and Nick looks concerned.
Jackie comes to Nick’s house with presents for Jack and then Katie takes Jack into the kitchen. Jackie comments how precious Jack is and marvels at how well Katie is doing. Nick credits it to Jack and Jackie asks how Brooke and Ridge feel about it. She assumes Brooke is sensitive to Katie’s feelings, but that Ridge resents Nick. She is surprised Ridge allowed him to have the party at his house, but Nick says he won’t let Ridge dictate what he does with his son and says Ridge was lucky to get an invitation to the party.
Brooke and Ridge get ready for the party and Ridge gets a call from Stephanie who wants to pick up some business papers. Ridge tells her to stop by and tells Brooke he’ll meet her at the party later. He notes that Nick gives him the willies and hopes he keeps his distance from Brooke.
In bed, Rick catches Taylor up on what Brooke told him about Ridge being the love of her life. Taylor admits she said that and Rick gets upset. Taylor says it has nothing to do with him and tries to butter him up, but Rick gets out of bed in a huff. Taylor tells him she has a past with Ridge and some day they will share as much as she did with Ridge. Rick asks, “And someday I will be the love of your life?” Rick gets dressed, but remains quiet. Taylor tells him that her past with Ridge doesn’t diminish what she feels for him. Rick wonders if she’s moved on and Taylor says she has, but she hasn’t forgotten Ridge, just like he can’t say he’s forgotten Amber. Rick gets even more upset and says he’s going to the office. Taylor tells him she’s going to Jack’s party and Rick thinks it’s a bad idea. Taylor assures him she’ll be fine and Rick reminds her to meet him at Il Giardino so they can finalize wedding plans. She asks him not to doubt her love for him and Rick leaves for work.
Brooke comes to Nick’s house and fawns all over Jack. Katie gets up and takes Jack to get him dressed him for the party. Brooke offers to do it, but Katie won’t let her. She even tries to get Jackie to stay put, but grandma insists she help. Once alone, Nick and Brooke talk about Ridge and Bridget, but Brooke doesn’t want to have either discussion on Jack’s first birthday. Nick wants to work hard at letting the past be the past and put the mistakes they made behind them.
Ridge gives Stephanie the papers and asks about Eric. Stephanie says he’s upset about Donna and she calls him the love of her life. Ridge tells Stephanie that Taylor said the same about him and Stephanie's interest is piqued. Ridge tells his mother that Taylor is allowing Brooke to raise Jack and that they will all be a family. Stephanie is shocked that Ridge agreed to raise Nick’s child and tells her son that it won’t work. Ridge acknowledges that raising Jack will have its problems, but Stephanie suggests he break up with Brooke and let her and Nick raise him. Brooke calls and Ridge puts her on speakerphone. She asks what’s keeping him and Ridge says he will be there soon. Stephanie and Ridge both hear Nick’s voice in the background telling Brooke they have to tend to their son. After Ridge hangs up with Brooke, Stephanie tells Ridge to think about being with Taylor.
While Katie, Jackie, Nick and Brooke play with Jack, Katie picks up the boy and asks Nick to take a picture of the two of them as Brooke looks on concerned.
Stephanie comes to see Taylor who is wrapping a present for Jack. Stephanie questions her on giving Jack up to Brooke and then brings up her feelings for Ridge. Taylor says he’s committed to Brooke, but Stephanie says she and Ridge could get back together. Stephanie thinks it could be the last chance that Taylor has to put her family back together and she doesn’t think she should pass up this opportunity.
Ridge walks into the party as Jackie is taking a photo of Brooke, Nick and Jack. Ridge and Katie both look less than pleased at the family photo and Ridge asks Brooke if he can speak with her alone. After everyone else leaves the room, Ridge tells Brooke he’s upset about Nick hanging all over her and her enjoying it. Brooke says they were just celebrating Jack’s birthday and thinks he’s overreacting. Ridge retorts that he warned her about this. He’s willing to share Jack with Nick, but he won’t share her with his brother – he won’t!
