Katie processes the fact that she’s pregnant while keeping it from Bridget, Bridget consoles Donna over Eric, and Katie tells Nick they have to talk.
At the hospital, Donna walks into Eric’s room and sees that Eric has been hooked up to a respirator. She freaks out and asks the nurse if he’s getting worse. The nurse tells her to talk to the doctor and leaves.

At Nick’s, Jackie comes downstairs and talks to her son who is working. They discuss Jack and how he loves the ladies, especially Bridget and Katie. Nick says Katie doesn’t come around too often and Jackie thinks Nick must miss her. They talk about how wonderful both Katie and Bridget are and Jackie slyly says they have a lot in common.

In her exam room, Katie covers in front of Bridget regarding her pregnancy, saying the doctor told her she’s doing well and there’s no sign of her rejecting the heart. Bridget is relieved, but asks to talk to Dr. Patrick outside. He says in a moment and Bridget hugs Katie and leaves the room. Katie tells Dr. Patrick that Bridget can’t know about her pregnancy. He agrees, but tells her to consult with an O.B. right away because this is not a typical pregnancy.
After the doctor leaves, Katie flashes back to her and Nick on Catalina Island in front of the fire. Nick consoles her as Katie lashes out over her “useless” body. Nick tells her she’s not useless, she’s beautiful. They fall back on the blankets and kiss.

Bridget comes back in and sees that Katie is crying and asks her what’s wrong. Katie says she’s fine, but Bridget doesn’t buy it. Katie says no one expected her to live and she wishes she hadn’t. Bridget thinks she just doesn’t know what to do with her future, but Katie thinks her survival is a sick joke. She says she’s getting punished and doesn’t think there is a God. She asks Bridget to leave and Bridget tells her that there are people she can count on including her. Katie adamantly asks her to go and cries as Bridget leaves.

Bridget comes to Eric’s room and explains to a frantic Donna that the oxygen wasn’t doing enough to keep Eric going on his own so the respirator is helping him. Donna asks if he’s going to get better and Bridget tells her it’s a waiting game. Bridget tells Donna that seeing her father like this is difficult because he is her hero. She thinks there must be something else she could be doing and Donna asks if there is, citing what she did for Katie. Bridget says there are no miracle cures for someone like this in a coma and everything that can be done is being done. They just have to wait and pray and Donna grabs Bridget’s hand for comfort. Donna doesn’t feel like her prayers are working and Bridget tells her not to give up, because miracles do happen. Donna thinks if that’s all he needs then they can wait for it to happen at home so he can be in familiar surroundings. Bridget says he needs to be in the hospital and taking him home won’t change his condition, but it could overwhelm her. Donna asks if he’s going to get better and Bridget cries saying she doesn’t know. Donna doesn’t care what the odds are, she believes he will come back to them and she’s not giving up hope.

Katie talks to Dr. Caspary and asks if her pregnancy could be a false positive. The doctor tells her she reviewed the labs herself and Katie is in fact pregnant. Dr. Caspary notes that Katie’s pregnancy wasn’t planned and asks when she might have conceived. Katie says there was only one time, right before they adjusted her regimen. Dr. Caspary says pregnancy for heart transplant patients is high risk and Dr. Patrick agrees, saying it puts a greater strain on the heart and increases the risk of rejection. As the doctors discuss her case, Katie flashes back to her night with Nick and the doctors telling her she’s pregnant. It’s all too much for her and Katie almost passes out. Dr. Caspary helps stabilize her and instructs her to minimize her stress. She says Katie can have a healthy child, but with her drug treatment side effects are possible. Katie doesn’t understand how this could happen and the doctor tells her she’s defied medical probabilities before. Dr. Caspary says she’s a remarkable, strong, young woman and that while she almost lost her life, she now has the opportunity to bring a new one into this world. Katie asks for some time by herself and the doctor obliges. Katie picks up her phone and calls Nick. She asks him to meet her at the Marlin right away.

On the Marlin, Katie recalls how wonderful Bridget has been to her. Nick comes aboard and Katie says they need to talk. She says she got some unexpected news and Nick says she can tell him anything. When Katie hesitates, Nick says she knows how he feels about her so whatever it is she can talk to him about it. Katie just looks at him with a stressed out and conflicted look on her face.
