Owen gives Felicia bad news, while Ridge implores his father to hand the business over to him and Brooke.
Owen sits at a table on the rooftop and Felicia hurries over to see if he got the incriminating photos of Donna. He didn’t, but says she did open up to him. Felicia doesn’t want him to be her shrink, but Owen tells her that Donna is hurt that Eric didn’t take her to New York, but blames Ridge, not Eric. Felicia thinks this means Donna is becoming disenchanted, but Owen tells her only with the family, she still loves Eric a lot. Owen doesn’t think their plan is going to work because Donna hasn’t given him a second look. Felicia thinks she’s just being discrete, but Owen disagrees saying Donna is not a bad person. Felicia tells him to get it together or else he won’t get paid. Owen continues to defend Donna and thinks that Felicia would hate any woman who came between her parents. Felicia tells him if he can’t help her break up Eric and Donna, she’ll find another way. Owen insists that Donna is just not that into him because she is happy with Eric. He says he won’t tell anyone about the money and points out that there are other things he can do, but Felicia says not for her. Owen tells her that he can’t do what she wants him to and Felicia accuses him of falling for Donna. Owen says that Donna is devoted to Eric and that she and her family need to accept it.
In Eric’s office, Ridge and Brooke ask Donna how the meetings in New York went. She doesn’t know, but says Eric should be back any second. Eric enters and tells everyone that the meetings with the European buyers were very complimentary but he didn’t get as many orders as he would have liked. Ridge assumes the trip was a bust, but Eric didn’t say that. Donna defends the reason why sales have been dropping and Ridge says the decline started when Eric and Donna got married, but he has a solution. Ridge announces that he and Brooke are getting married and that he is planning an emergency board meeting demanding that Eric turn control of FC over to Brooke and him. Eric is outraged at the ambush, but Ridge says it’s more like a passing of the torch from one fashion super couple to another. Donna realizes that he’s referring to Eric and Steph and wonders why Ridge and Brooke are suddenly the standard in fashion. Brooke thinks if they get married and run the company it will generate a lot of excitement since they have a following. Ridge says it’s more than just a marketing issue, they need to make a dramatic difference in order to turn things around. Donna urges Eric not to give in and let Ridge make them feel bad about their relationship. Ridge tells his father they have to stop the downward spiral before it’s too late and hands him a document giving Ridge and Brooke control. He says they’ll say it was a wedding present – the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. Donna says they can’t force Eric to sign the document, but Brooke says it’s for the best. They assure Eric that the family will be taken care of with this new deal and while Eric remains quite, Donna takes a stand. She rails at both of them saying it’s unfair to blame the decline of the company on their marriage. Eric agrees that it’s not fair, but says he and Ridge will discuss it privately, not at a family meeting.
Brooke and Donna talk out in the hall and Donna can’t believe she and Ridge are doing this. She asks her sister to talk Ridge out of it, but Brooke tells a stunned Donna that she can’t because she helped Ridge come up with the plan. Donna is dumbfounded and the sisters argue over what’s happening. Donna thinks Ridge turned Brooke against her too, but Brooke thinks it’s a good plan that will give Forrester a sympathetic spotlight and good press. Brooke says Eric will be able to retire with dignity and there won’t be any whispers about their marriage and the impact on the company. Donna disagrees and says this company is Eric’s heart and soul and that he has many good years left. She tells Brooke that her and Ridge ripping this company out of his hands is just plain wrong.
Eric and Ridge talk alone and Eric tells his son he is disappointed. Ridge says he will be too if Eric doesn’t sign that paper. Ridge just wants the ability to turn things around and Eric says he’s tried it before. Ridge assures his father that this time it’s going to happen. As they argue, Pam brings in Eric’s daily snack and tells him that he has an important phone call. Eric takes it and learns that a regular buyer has downsized his order. Ridge says he can fix this and he and Brooke can turn it around. He says they have shared the business up until now, but now it’s time for a change. Ridge asks if he’s tired of the daily grind, but Eric says he loves the business. Ridge gives Eric the hard sell saying it will free him up to spend time with his new bride and to travel and enjoy life. Ridge points out the buyers in NY were pleasant, but they were tiptoeing around the fact that the Forrester business is in distress. Ridge doesn’t think Eric wants to put Donna through any more stress with the family or press and says the only remedy is for Eric to pass the baton. He adamantly tells his father that it has to be done. Defeated, Eric says, “Ok.” Ridge hugs his father and tells him he’s doing the right thing. Ridge promises that Eric won’t regret it and says he won’t let him down.
