Katie tries to convince Beth to stay, but Beth leaves unnoticed; Stephen and Brooke look for Beth while she meets up with Hope; and Marcus and Steffy flirt some more.
Katie is stunned after Beth reveals she’s had a series of strokes and is losing her memories. Katie can’t believe she didn’t say anything and Beth says she didn’t know how to tell them. Katie wants to get her help, but Beth says she can never be the mother she remembers. Beth knows who Katie is for now, but doesn’t want to be a burden to her in the future. Katie understands that she’s scared, but says Beth can’t run away without any explanation and expect that to be okay. Beth explains that she has images that flicker of her life and then they’re gone. She doesn’t know if they are memories or from a dream. Katie asks if she remembers Storm and Beth has some memories of him. When she learned he was dead, it was like a knife in her heart because once the memories go he will be gone forever. Katie says miracles happen in medicine all the time and that there is constant research on dementia. Beth doesn’t think that will happen for her because her memory loss is terrifying and will probably only get worse. Katie says they need her, but Beth reminds her daughter that she’s not the same person Katie remembers. Katie says that they have today and they should live in the moment, but Beth says she’s changing and there’s nothing she can do. Beth says she has some memories of their lives together and knows there’s this invisible thread that connects them all, but thinks Katie needs more than that – someone who can feel her loss and pain. Beth insists she doesn’t want her daughters to have to take care of her.
Brooke questions Stephen about why Beth would leave so suddenly. Stephen says he doesn’t know, but her behavior is confusing. He’s asked her to come back to L.A. before, but she didn’t want to. Stephen never found out her reasons, but Brooke says Beth’s not leaving without an explanation! Stephen thinks he’s the reason Beth is staying away from the family and says that his walking out on them was the worst mistake of his life. Brooke worries that Beth is doing the same thing and Stephen assures her that won’t happen.
Katie runs upstairs to call for Stephen and Brooke for help in convincing Beth to stay, but when they return, Beth is gone. Katie tells Brooke and Stephen what’s going on with Beth and they are stunned. Katie says they have to find her and Stephen thinks they should go to the airport. Stephen and Brooke leave and Katie stays behind in case she comes back.
Beth drives thinking she can’t stay in L.A. because she’ll become more and more dependent on her family and that the reunion they just shared has to be enough. Meanwhile, Stephen and Brooke get in the car and Brooke finds out that there are no flights from L.A. to Paris until tomorrow. They wonder where she could be and are determined to find her and get her help.
Beth goes to Brooke’s house and Katherine, the babysitter says she’s not sure when Brooke will be home. Beth says she’s only here for a few minutes before she goes to the airport and Katherine leaves the room. Beth looks around and remarks that Brooke really pulled herself up from that little house in the valley where they used to live. Beth thinks her girls will be fine because they have each other and then finds a music box. Hope comes out and tells her grandma that it is her mother’s music box. Beth remembers giving it to her as a little girl and Hope tells her name. Beth says she knows who she is and they have a nice bonding moment. Beth hugs Hope and says she doesn’t want to let her go.
At Forrester, Marcus can’t believe how amazing Eric was and Steffy apologizes for Ridge. Marcus wonders how Ridge found out, but Steffy doesn’t tell him Phoebe was the reason. Marcus is just thrilled to be accepted and have a real family. He thanks Steffy for sticking up for him with her family and says it’s something he will never forget. Steffy says his relationship with Donna isn't her family's business, but understands why they are so upset with Donna because of Stephanie and Eric’s breakup and what’s happening with the company. Marcus wonders if that’s really Donna’s fault and Steffy says it is in a lot of people’s eyes. Marcus asks, “And in yours?” Steffy asks if Marcus is concerned with what she thinks of his mother or of him. Marcus already knows what she thinks of him and playfully says he can read minds. He jokes that she’s having naughty thoughts and Steffy flirts right back.
