It's all about the engagement today: Eric's thrilled, Brooke's wary, Thorne stands his ground, and Steph's moved to tears!

Stephanie opens the door to a gift-bearing Jackie. Jackie saunters into the Forrester house, telling Stephanie that the gift is an engagement present. Eric enters, and just as Stephanie is about to “break the news” of the engagement to him, he thanks Jackie for it, saying it’s very, very thoughtful. Of course, this doesn’t set well with Stephanie, who immediately starts in on Eric. Stephanie tells Jackie to leave and slams the door in her face, which Eric thinks is rude. Stephanie tries to get rolling again, but Eric shuts her off, telling her he’s happy for Thorne, and saying, “You may not know what a man like Thorne would see in a woman like Donna, but I do.” He tells Stephanie to butt out – it’s Thorne’s life, not hers! Stephanie tells Eric that Donna’s in it for revenge, hoping that Eric will take her side and get on the bandwagon of the marriage being a bad idea. But instead, Eric lists all the reasons Donna might want to get revenge on Stephanie, clearly telling Stephanie that he thinks Donna has good reason to want to get her back.

Donna and Thorne are in Nick’s office looking for Brooke when Donna tells Thorne that Stephanie had come back to the house after he left yesterday. She tells him everything that was said, and worries aloud that Stephanie will cause problems for her and Thorne. He says he’ll take care of Stephanie. Brooke enters, happy to see Thorne. Donna shows off the ring to Brooke. Brooke’s shocked. A smiling Thorne says, “We’re going to be a family again, Brooke.” After he leaves, Brooke begins grilling Donna, suspecting aloud that Donna’s with Thorne to make Stephanie unhappy. Donna flashes her wry little smile, saying, “It’s possible.” Brooke tells Donna that Thorne isn’t even her type – reminding Donna that generally she goes for the tall, dark, brooding guys. Brooke is peeved, wanting Donna to call it off, especially given how vulnerable Thorne is right now. Donna says she’s lonely and she thinks Thorne can make her happy, and she knows she can make him feel like a man again.

“For a man so obsessed with sex, you have a short memory,” Stephanie is saying to Eric as we join them again. “Our son is marrying a girl with more mileage on her than the Queen Mary!” Eric still sticks to his guns, saying that there’s nothing wrong with marrying Donna just for the comfort. Thorne enters silently, and sneaks up behind them, just as Stephanie is saying Thorne is “dim” for wanting this engagement. Eric tells him to come in and toast the engagement, but Thorne demands to be alone with Stephanie instead. Eric leaves and Thorne gets serious with Stephanie real quick, telling her to either support him or leave him alone. She calls him “adolescent” for using Donna to get back at her for not treating him the way he wanted to be treated when he was younger. She tries to point out how great Darla was and how Donna is so different from Darla. Thorne gets seriously peeved then, yelling about how Darla is gone and she’s not coming back. He’s hacked about how everyone is so in love with Ashley and Ridge, forgetting about the fact that Ashley slept with Ridge’s daughter’s boyfriend, and snarls at Stephanie about how women “love” Ridge, but they only “use” him.

Back at the office, Brooke is pleading with Donna to leave Thorne alone, pointing out that he’s the least responsible for all the wrongs that Donna feels The Forresters have perpetrated against her family. Jackie enters and, because it’s so obvious that Brooke is less than pleased, tries to lighten the mood by suggesting to Brooke that designing a wedding gown for Donna might make her feel better about the decision. Brooke leaves, whispering to Donna that “the conversation isn’t finished.” Alone with Jackie, Donna starts ranting about Brooke’s lack of support for what she’s doing. Jackie reminds Donna how opposed to this idea Stephanie is. Donna is cocky, not worried about what Stephanie will do. Jackie’s not so sold, believing that Stephanie will force Thorne to see things her way.

Back at The Forrester house, Thorne is telling Stephanie how great the sex is with Donna, but says that’s not the only reason he wants her. He confides that he was drinking and drugging himself into oblivion before Donna stepped in. “So you’re going to replace one crutch with another?” Stephanie asks. Thorne goes off, screaming, “What if I have?! What if I have?!” He manages to rattle the unshakable Stephanie, who bursts into tears and begs him not to go through with this engagement. She even gathers him into her arms, pleading with him and apologizing for not being there when he needed her. He tells her he needed to be held by her when he was 12 and now it’s too late, that he’s going to marry Donna and to just get used to it. He leaves a defeated Stephanie crying into her hands.
