Nick is called upon to give his sperm donation for the invitro attempt, Stephanie does a swimmingly good job of covering for Lt. Baker and Shane's body is no longer at the bottom of the bay.
As Ridge is holding Shane's ringing phone, Lt. Baker asks, "Is something wrong with the phone?" Ridge fumbles a little and then says that the phone is Stephanie's… she must've lost it. Just then Stephanie comes in and Ashley tells her that Ridge found her phone. Stephanie is puzzled but Ridge hands it over to her. Then she sees Shane's picture on the display and acts glad that "her" phone isn't missing anymore. Lt. Baker tells Stephanie about the restraining order on Shane and she thinks it's a good idea for the police to handle such things. Lt. Baker leaves and Ashley comments that Shane must be a real nut case. Stephanie tells Ridge to go down and tend to a problem in the cutting room, then tells Ashley that Shane is sore subject for Ridge and maybe they shouldn't mention his name anymore. Ashley says that there seem to be a few subjects that Ridge isn't comfortable talking about lately. Stephanie says that Ridge is just trying to deal with his explosive relationship with Rick and then getting over the shock of losing Brooke. Stephanie wonders if Ashley and Ridge shouldn't go to Catalina for a couple days just for fun. Ashley scoffs that would be rushing things, but Stephanie suggests that it wouldn't necessarily be inappropriate.
Nick arrives at Taylor's office with a present. It's a newly engraved name plate for her door, "Dr. Taylor Marone". He bids goodbye to Dr. Hayes as he puts it on the door, even though it's 24 hours until their wedding. Taylor tells Nick about the surprisingly pleasant visit that she just had from Brooke. Then Bridget calls with good news about the invitro. Taylor puts her on speaker phone so that Nick can hear. It turns out that donor who is Taylor's first choice just became available. Bridget knows that it's all happening quickly, but since Taylor's cycle syncs up nicely with the donor's, can they come to the clinic in about an hour to get started? She asks Nick if he's willing to do is part and he jokes that he can "rise to the occasion." After they hang up the phone, Taylor gleefully says that the donor has the same hair and eye color, she graduated in psychology, and she loves sailing. It was meant to be!
After Nick has gone back to his office, he is surprised when Rick walks in the door. He's heard about the wedding tomorrow and wants to extend his best wishes. Nick asks if he's free tomorrow and then asks Rick to be his best man. Rick is surprised. Nick explains that if he can put Brooke aside, he would truly love to have him stand up with him. Besides, Phoebe is the maid of honor. Rick says that he must regretfully decline because this wedding his "killing my mother." Nick completely understands and they shake hands.
Brooke is at home looking at Nick and Taylor's wedding announcement in the newspaper. She's remembering her own wedding with Nick. Rick comes over with flowers for her. He sees that she is looking at the wedding announcement in the newspaper and admits that Nick asked him to be her best man. He says that he turned him down, even though Phoebe is the maid of honor. Brooke asks him to reconsider because Nick doesn't have a lot of people in his life and it would mean a lot to him to have Rick as a best man. She says that she thinks it's wonderful that Rick and Nick are close. She knows that she has to let go of Nick and maybe Rick being his best man could be the first step.
Taylor and Nick arrive at hospital and Bridget hands them over to the fertility specialist. They discuss Taylor's cycle and explain that the hormone shots will sync her up with the donor and they can proceed from there. She warns that the process isn't always successful and that it can be time consuming and very expensive. Taylor says that they don't care. When Nick and Taylor are alone filling out the forms, Taylor is excited and Nick reminds her not to get too excited just yet. Nick's cell phone rings and he's happy to learn that Rick would like to accept his invitation to be best man after all. Nick asks how Brooke feels about it and when he learns that Rick has her blessing, he asks him to thank her.
Ridge comes back from the cutting room and tells his mother that there isn't anything wrong down there. Stephanie says that she just wanted him out of the room before Ashley picked up on his nervousness. She explains that if Phoebe's mother asked the police for a restraining order, they need to let that go on without interfering. Ridge says that's all well and good, but "…there's one hell of a time bomb right in the middle of the Santa Monica Bay." Stephanie tells him to take a couple days for a change of scenery…with Ashley. Ridge says that no change of scenery will help him forget that he had a part in a man's death.
Today's episode ends with a foggy image of Shane's body that has floated to the surface of the water.
