Ridge makes a split-second decision, Stephanie isn't far behind, and it looks like Ashley is stood up.

Shane and Ridge are sliding together to the floor staring into each other's eyes. Shane slowly stands up and Ridge looks up at him in shock. Then, Shane tumbles to the ground exposing a bullet wound to the abdomen. Ridge picks up the gun in horror.

Stephanie and Ashley are in the lab when they hear a noise. Stephanie says that it's probably just the freight elevator. In any case she assures her that it's not an earthquake. Stephanie says goodnight and Ashley looks at her watch while she waits for Ridge to pick her up for their date.

In his office, Ridge is stunned and rambling about how Shane was trying to killing himself and that he was trying to save him but the gun went off. Ridge decides to pick up the phone and call the police to explain what happened. As he starts to dial, he flashes back to the judge's warning in the Grant Chambers shooting case from years ago. The judge warns a much younger Ridge that if he ever comes before the court again in a shooting incident "…you will spend the rest of your life behind bars." Ridge puts the phone down and closes the door to his office. He quickly gets out a garment bag and cringes as he starts to stuff Shane's body into it. Ridge puts the gun into his pocket and drags the body out into the hallway.
Stephanie is walking to her car in the parking garage and she calls Ridge. She tells his voicemail that she hopes he has a nice evening with Ashley. After she keys into her car, she sees that Ridge is down there too, and he's put something in his trunk and driving away. She's curious, so she starts her car and proceeds to follow him.

Taylor meets Nick for dinner and he tells her about Shane's visit to the office today. He says that he thinks Shane finally got the message to leave Phoebe alone. As they are talking, Detective Baker sees them and comes to their table to say hello. Taylor says that she's glad to see him because she wants to ask a question about a guy who is harassing her daughter. She says how Shane McGrath has been coming inside their gates and calling, etc. The Detective says that he would've put that kid behind bars months ago but Phoebe stood in the way. He asks if they are sure that these advances toward Phoebe are unwanted? Nick says he'll make sure that Shane McGrath will not be a threat to Phoebe. After Baker leaves, they finish dinner and Nick says that he wants to swing by the Marlin to check it out before he comes to her place.

Ashley is tired of waiting in the lab, so she goes up to Ridge's office. When she sees that he's not there, she decides to wait. There's a spot of blood on the rug and she walks right over it.

As Ridge is driving, he tells himself to get a grip and decide where he's going. He recalls his recent conversation with Phoebe from the Shady Marlin. She said something about the marina probably has a bed of old tires and cars, but it's lovely from sea level. Finally, he makes it to a chain-linked area along the water and pulls over in the fog. Stephanie has pulled up behind him but Ridge doesn't notice. She watches as he pulls a heavy bag from the trunk and walks toward the water. Just then, Ashley calls Stephanie and asks if she knows where Ridge is. Stephanie tells her that he had a business emergency and he'll explain it to her tomorrow, no doubt. They hang up and Stephanie looks off into the area where she last spotted Ridge. She walks up to the fence and sees that Ridge has gone into the Shady Marlin.

Inside Nick's boat, Ridge reaches for an old coffee can and finds the boat's ignition key. He fires up the engine and takes off. Once out at sea, Ridge unzips the bag and looks at Shane's cold dead eyes. She shudders as he zips it again, only this time some of Shane's hair gets stuck for a minute in the zipper. Ridge drags the bag out to the bow of the boat and wraps it up in chains. Then he secures it to an anchor and tosses it overboard, along with the gun. As the body sinks, Ridge pants from exertion.
