Rick sits in his office thinking about Brooke and Ridge and says Ridge won’t make his mother happy. Rick won’t let this happen and says he will stop the wedding.
Brooke comes to see Rick who tells his mother he won’t read a poem or stand up for Ridge at their wedding. Brooke asks him to stand up for her and accept that she and Ridge will spend the rest of their lives together. She tells Rick that Ridge has agreed to let him come to the rehearsal dinner. Rick is sarcastically flattered that Ridge will allow it, but doesn’t want any part of their rehearsal dinner or wedding. They argue about Ridge and Brooke tells her son that she loves him and points out that he should be enjoying all the good in his life and not be focusing on her and Ridge. She knows their marriage will work this time and asks her son to be happy for her. Rick says he can’t close his eyes and allow her to walk into another disaster with Ridge. Brooke continues to try and convince Rick to accept her union to Ridge and be a part of it. She tells him both she and Ridge have tried with him and this is his problem now because he won’t budge. She has been through this too many times with Stephanie and she won’t do it anymore. She tells him she will miss him at the party and the wedding. Brooke says she loves him and wishes she could have done better by him and change the things he would have liked to be different. Rick tells her she was a great mother and he worshipped her so he didn’t want to share her with anyone. Brooke hugs Rick and tells him she appreciates him and again asks him to be there for her at the wedding to help her celebrate this amazing day in her life. She tells him she needs him to be there and Rick says, “How the hell am I supposed to say no to that.” They laugh and Rick tells her he loves her and would do anything for her. He agrees to be there and Brooke is grateful.
Rick goes to the rooftop at FC and thinks about the day he and Ridge fought. Four models come to see him and note how well he’s doing without his cane. Rick says he’s retired it in honor of the big spring shoot. The models leave to get ready for it and Steffy walks up. Ridge tries to charm her, but Steffy is having none of it.
Steffy starts to work out and Rick offers to help and gives her a shoulder rub, but Steffy rejects his advances knowing that he’s using her to get back at Ridge. She tells Rick that when he fell, he must have knocked something loose because he’s not the same person he was. Rick flirts with her more and Steffy yells at him, saying he’s the last person she would ever be interested in. Steffy says he has issues with women and he’s taking it out on her dad. Rick retorts, “Why don’t you let me throw you over the edge and we’ll see how you feel.” Steffy points to that as proof that he is out to get Ridge, but Rick defends all of his relationships and why he is angry with her father. He says Brooke and Ridge are incompatible and he won’t let Ridge hurt his mother again and he will do anything to stop him.
Rick drags Steffy back into his office, but she resists him. Rick apologizes for kissing her, but Steffy just yells at him because she’s dating Marcus and he dated her mother and sister. She calms down a bit and Rick says he’s been lonely since Taylor dumped him and she reminds him of her. Steffy thinks that’s ‘messed up’, but Rick thinks she should be flattered explaining that she’s smart, strong and feisty like her mother. Steffy thinks Rick is working her, but Rick insists he’s not; he’s just still getting over Taylor dumping him. Steffy’s phone rings and it’s Marcus. He tells her he’s in Paris, but he’s confused as to why Rick sent him there. However, he thinks he’s lucky, but that it’s almost too good to be true. Steffy hangs up with Marcus and yells at Rick about sending Marcus out of the country because she knows it’s all part of his plan to use her. Steffy makes it clear that she won’t be used and Rick explains that he was devastated when Taylor broke up with him. He blames Ridge for it and says he hates him for taking Taylor away from him, for messing with his family as a kid and for hurting Brooke over the years. Steffy feels bad for Rick, but says blaming Ridge is a copout and kissing her was wrong. Rick apologizes and Steffy asks what happened to him because he used to be such a good guy. Steffy used to think he was cool and she was happy he and her mother were together, but now he’s this power hungry person and he’s losing the good guy he once was. Rick says Taylor did a number on him and he blames Ridge for it. He’s trying to make a powerful impression and he wants to do right by Eric, but he feels like he’s doing it alone and that he doesn’t have a friend in the world. Steffy says she could be his friend, but she doesn’t want to be used again and she doesn’t want to see his rage destroy him.
Steffy walks in on Rick trying out which name to use as the FC president – Rick or Eric Jr. Steffy mocks him and then berates him for erasing Ridge’s name everywhere. Steffy tells Rick he’s not seen the last of her father and baits him saying, Ridge will be back with Brooke if he isn’t already. Steffy says she doesn’t have a problem with Rick; she has a problem with him having a problem with her father. Rick changes the subject saying he doesn’t want to see her wasting her time and talents in Shipping and Receiving. Steffy doesn’t think she’s that ambitious, but Rick tells her they are a lot alike, smart and driven and he wants to promote her. Dinner is brought in for two and Steffy thinks Rick is expecting someone, but Rick makes it clear it’s for her. Rick asks how it was for Steffy growing up knowing spending time with Brooke was more important to Ridge than spending time with her. He says they have more in common than she thinks and Steffy sits down to eat with him. They discuss ideas for work and Steffy asks Rick if he is even listening to her. Rick says he’s definitely paying attention and kisses her. Steffy slaps him and tells him to never put his hands on her again. Steffy storms out and Rick looks pleased with himself, saying, “A challenge. I like that.”
Rick stabs a magazine cover of Ridge and Brooke and says Ridge will never have his mother and he will do whatever it takes to protect her from Ridge.
Rick, Eric, Owen and Donna have a business meeting and Rick questions whether or not Owen and Donna should head up the project they’re discussing. Eric decrees it's what he wants and the meeting breaks up. Donna asks Eric why he wants her to spend time with Owen and thinks it’s a bad idea. Eric doesn’t think it will be a problem if Donna is as committed to him as she says she is. Donna assures him she is, so Eric says there's no reason she can’t work on this project with Owen. Donna agrees to it and kisses Eric telling him she loves him.
Stephanie comes to Rick’s office and sees him taking down photos of Ridge. She asks if there is anything left of her son in the room and Rick replies, “God I hope not.” Rick says if she gives away his secret, Brooke will be with Ridge forever and it could affect Eric’s health. Stephanie warns him not to use Eric’s health as a weapon and informs him that his editing trick didn’t have the impact he wanted because Ridge and Brooke are still together. Rick is upset and Stephanie asks what Rick’s next move is. Steffy and Marcus interrupt them and Rick tells Marcus he is very valuable, so he is shipping him off to Forrester International so he can learn the ropes. Marcus is excited and Steffy is proud of him. Marcus asks how long he’ll be there and Rick tells him just a few weeks, but if all goes well, it could be longer. Rick tells him he is scheduled to leave in a couple of hours. Marcus would have liked more time to prepare, but he’s grateful and asks Steffy to help him get ready to leave.
After Marcus and Steffy leave the office, Stephanie comments that Rick is making some hasty decisions. Rick says he has thought things through and the company will thrive under his leadership. The best thing he’s done is to get rid of Ridge and getting him out of his mother’s life will be just as easy. Rick says he has a new plan to break up Ridge and Brooke. Stephanie wonders what it is and Rick says he thought she wanted to keep her hands clean. She thinks Eric has forgiven her for much worse and asks what he’s up to.
