Donna tells the kids to run upstairs and brush their teeth for bed. The kids do as they're told and once Donna is alone again, Pam returns. Donna continues to try and ‘help’ Pam, but Pam laughs and thinks she just wants to see her dead. Donna says she just doesn’t want to see anyone get hurt, especially the children. Pam makes references to how cute Hope is and Donna tells her that Stephanie would be horrified if she did anything to the kids. Pam says if Donna tells Eric to go back to Stephanie, everyone will be safe. Pam instructs Donna to tell Eric she wants to be with Owen, but Donna doesn't think she can be that convincing. Pam urges Donna to give the performance of a lifetime so that she can fulfill her purpose on this earth, which is to reunite Eric and Stephanie. Pam recounts watching her father abuse Stephanie when they were kids and regrets that she couldn’t do anything to help her sister, but notes that Stephanie saved her from similar abuse. The doorbell rings and Pam warns Donna about saying anything or else she will be sorry and she hides.
Brooke, RJ and Hope come to the cabin and the kids are excited to see Jack. They run to play with him and Jack seems to respond. Brooke asks Rick why he came up when he knew she would be there. Rick tells his mother that they need to do what’s best for Jack. He says it’s not working with Taylor and Jack because something is missing and Brooke thinks it’s because Taylor is always tense around him. Rick says they need to figure out what’s best for Jack and Taylor starts to cry. Brooke shockingly asks if Taylor is considering letting her be a mother to Jack.
At Big Bear Brooke asks Ridge if he can spend the night. He tells her, "I don't think so. Are you okay?" She says, "I think so." At that moment, R.J. comes into the cabin saying he's scared by 'outside noises'. Brooke asks if he wants to stay in the cabin with her. R.J. pipes right up, "And Daddy?" Ridge tells him he used to be scared too, that's why Grandma and Grandpa built the cabin. R.J. says he's so glad Daddy changed his mind, "aren't you Mommy?" Brooke smiles, "Yes." They snuggle in, one on either side of R.J. in front of the fire.
Inside, Ridge tells Brooke that he doesn’t want to lose Ashley, especially since he knows that he and Brooke would crash and burn together just like always. Brooke tries to tell him that it was always Stephanie’s fault in the past and it would be different this time. She tries to throw RJ into Ridge’s face, asking him how it would make RJ feel to know that Ridge passed up on the chance to make them be a family again. Ridge throws it back on her, pointing out all the things she did against him (Ridge) without thinking about RJ’s feelings. “You and I are just not meant to be,” he says.
Back at Brooke’s house, Ridge is still telling Brooke about everything Andy had said before he died. Brooke surmises that Andy must have been stalking her for a while. Ridge comforts Brooke, reminding her that Andy’s not a problem anymore and instead they need to focus on finding out who helped him. Holding Brooke close, Ridge says he’s going to get Hope and R.J. back to her, “where they belong.” He asks for Brooke’s forgiveness about the custody papers. She says she’s already forgiven him. Things get very tender between the two of them. “I have never ever stopped caring,” Ridge says. “I know who you are and I love who you are.” They promise to never become distanced from one another again. “I’ll always, always be on your side no matter what,” Ridge says. They kiss, a tender kiss that might have looked like there was the tiniest bit of something more than friendship behind it...
Ridge and Ashley are at home playing cards with Hope, R.J., and Abby. The kids run upstairs to play and Ridge tells Ashley that she’s made things so much easier for the kids by being there. He tells her she has a maternal side and that she’s “smart, beautiful…incredibly sexy.” They do a little kissing and then Ridge says, “Feels right, doesn’t it?” He tells Ashley that a couple months ago he was feeling lost and getting used to the idea of being alone. Ashley says that for a couple of years she was running, but the Forresters have become a second family to her. “I guess I don’t have to run anymore,” she says. She tells him that for a long time she thought he was being pulled in two different directions – hers and Brooke’s – but now she’s convinced he knows exactly what he wants. It’s clear that the two of them would like a little alone time together, which is fortunate because Ridge has already arranged for Stephanie to take the kids overnight.
Ridge, Hope and R.J. are eating breakfast at the dining room table. Hope asks how long she needs to stay here and Ridge says that it might take a little while to clean up mommy's house after the fire. Hope asks if mommy is staying here too? Ridge deflects the question by saying that Rick and Bridget are going to play hooky today and come play with them.
At Ridge's house, Bridget and Rick are playing with Hope and R.J. Phoebe calls from Insomnia and asks how things are going. He tells her that he really feels like he should stay with the kids, but he doesn't want to forfeit the signing contest. Phoebe says that she'll talk to Constantine. After he hangs up, Bridget asks him what he thinks is going on in the hearing. Rick says that he just hopes that Taylor shows up and counteracts everything that Stephanie says.
The fire alarm is going off and Brooke runs out from the kitchen to see the fire encircling her children! She tells them to hold onto each other while she figures out what to do. Ridge opens the door and runs right through the fire to grab the kids. After he hands them to Brooke, he finds a fire extinguisher and it doesn't work! Brooke tells him where another one is, and he gets it and puts the flames out. Ridge wraps his arms around Brooke and the kids and then asks how it happened. Brooke explains that she was in the kitchen making dinner, and when she came back to the family room, it was in flames. Ridge asks why she left them alone, again! Brooke starts to defend herself, but the Fire Department arrives.
Brooke and the kids snuggle up on the couch and talk about their day. She asks if they are hungry and then decides that she should go in the kitchen and make a picnic for them to eat out on the terrace. While the kids are waiting, Hope sees something under the coffee table and finds Nick's lighter. She and R.J. decide to light a candle for their picnic. After they've lit it, they drop it on the rug while fumbling with the terrace door.
