Somewhat agitated, Nick shoots Nerf hoops and tells Katie he’s not going to worry about Ridge and Brooke. Katie is happy to hear it and thinks everything will work out for them. Nick says maybe it will and maybe it won’t and kisses Katie, but Katie looks worried. Nick asks Katie to stop obsessing about Ridge and Brooke. He hopes Jack won’t be affected by what’s going on with them and wonders when they are supposed to take him back to Brooke. Katie thinks they should wait to call her and Nick reiterates that Ridge will lose if he makes Brooke choose between him and the kids. Nick wants to forget about Ridge and Brooke and hands Katie the Nerf basketball. They play for a bit and then start to make out. Katie tells him she loves him and doesn’t want anything to change. Nick playfully agrees and they get more passionate.
Katie tells Nick that something happened between Brooke and Ridge and it’s not good. Nick thinks it was probably just a fight, but Katie tells him Ridge walked out on her. Nick wonders if it has to do with Taylor, but Katie thinks it’s more than that. She says they can’t split up, they have to stay together. Nick wonders what’s really going on and Katie brings up Rick living with Brooke and getting the presidency of FC. She thinks they’ve gotten through worse and they will get through this. Nick says Brooke is a mother first and foremost and if Ridge makes her choose between him and the kids he could lose. Katie asks Nick if he really thinks they are over, but doesn’t wait for an answer and says they will be fine. Katie thinks Brooke and Ridge are in love just like they are and Nick agrees, but says he just hopes Brooke will be okay.
After putting Jack to bed, Nick and Katie find time to flirtatiously play some Nerf basketball. Nick playfully gets tired and Katie makes jokes about him being old and smoking his cigars. Nick declares the game a tie and they engage in more witty banter. Katie feeds Nick nuts and asks him if they will always be this happy. Instead of answering her, Nick happily kisses her.
Nick comes in the room with a tray of food and Katie tells him she heard from Beth and learned that Rick moved into Brooke’s house and Ridge moved out. Nick is sure Ridge didn’t leave without a fight and Katie says Rick and Ridge never really got along. Nick wonders who over the age of 10 does Ridge get along with? Katie thinks Nick seems awfully happy that Brooke and Ridge broke up, but Nick says it's not their business. He kisses Katie and asks if they can get to their business.
Nick and Katie have sex on the living room floor and Katie worries about the future. She doesn't want anything to change, but Nick says things will not stay the same and they will change, but for now he wants her to be exactly the way she is and to let him love her exactly the way that he does.
Nick and Katie come to Ridge’s house and Ridge thanks them for taking Jack for the day. Ridge tells someone on the phone that the babysitters are there, which Nick and Katie take offense to. Ridge dismisses it and Nick asks if Brooke is with Rick and wonders why he isn’t at the hospital as well. Nick glibly says of course Ridge isn’t there because he’s the reason Rick is in the situation he’s in. Katie tells them to play nice and goes to get Jack. Ridge and Nick discuss Rick and Ridge says it all started because Rick and Taylor broke up. Katie returns to the room with Jack and Nick assumes Taylor and Rick breaking up had something to do with Ridge. He asks, “How does it feel, dressmaker, to be right back in the middle of everything?” Nick wonders how Rick ended up in the hospital and Ridge says he was defending himself. They argue some more and Ridge asks Katie to take Jack out of the room. Nick says as long as Ridge has a hand in raising Jack, he will have an opinion on how Ridge treats people. Ridge retorts that as long as he is raising Nick’s son, Nick will respect him and his family. Brooke will be his wife and Jack will be his stepson and nothing and no one will get in the way of that!
Nick comes in the room where Katie and Jack are and overhears Katie telling Jack sometimes she feels like his mom and wishes that she were. She thinks that she’s kind of like a mom to him and Nick makes his presence known. Nick takes Jack and Katie remarks what a great kid Jack is. Katie puts Jack down and she and Nick talk. Katie thinks Jack is really starting to bond with her and thinks maybe they should keep Jack full time until the situation with Rick is over. Nick thinks that will cause a lot of stress for Brooke and thinks Jack needs to be with his real mom. Katie notes that they can’t forget that Brooke is Jack’s biological mother, or that Nick has a baby with her sister.
Nick comes in and asks Brooke if everything is alright. Jackie blows through the room and announces she’s leaving. Nick can’t believe Ridge got that upset over a photo. Brooke asks him to be more sensitive in front of Ridge and notes that she needs to be more careful when she’s around him. Nick asks where Ridge went and she says he left with Taylor.
Katie and Nick have the house all decorated for Jack’s birthday when Nick gets the call from Brooke. He nixes the idea of moving the party because the whole house is decorated and Katie is ‘into’ it. Brooke thinks it might be difficult on her sister, but Nick lets her know that Katie is really excited.
Nick tells Katie Brooke wanted to have the party at her place, but Katie says it’s therapeutic for her. Katie is grateful they have Jack because she couldn’t get through this without him. She says he’s just like a son to her and Nick looks concerned.
