I wonder if bradley bell realizes how he bascially has destroyed the character of brooke logan. I've watched this show since its premiere and at one time brooke was a very well written she was a sexy, outrageous, wild, intelligent and singleminded woman determined to get what or who she wanted. Now she's just a woman who can't be without a man. |

I have a totally different perspective where Brooke is concerned. This character has always been selfish and used men and sex as her medicine whenever she's feeling down. It's sad that after 20 years reel time, Brooke is the same selfish, needy, indecisive girl-woman she was from day one of this soap. Where is her growth? And her silly excuse to dump Ridge in order to run after Nick again is simply pathetic. The writers should have come up with a more believable scenario. My only hope is that one day soon, we viewers will see that the past few months was only a bad dream that Taylor dreamed while recovering from the boating accident. |

This is classic Brooke...they didn't destroy her, they're keeping her true to form. She repeats the same patterns over and over again. I have watched this show off and on since it premiered (I'm a more loyal watcher since Y&R has tanked) and Brooke is just as I've always seen and remembered her: a hoochie who goes after whatever man suits her fancy while Ridge is with someone else. |

I tend to agree. I have come to believe that characters are written the way they are and then they are pigeonholed there never to surge to grow and change. For example -Brooke will never be happy in love. We can want it, wish for it, demand it, but it ain't gonna happen. Ridge is a stud. Always will be, even if the viewers don't agree. Taylor is the heroine. Even when she is being sneaky and bad, she always comes out on top. She will always win in a struggle against Brooke. She may loose a battle or two, but the war always goes to Taylor. Thorne is always second best. No matter what he does, he fails in comparison to Ridge or any of the other siblings for that matter. There are plenty of more examples, but these are just a few. No way are the writers going to write these characters out of their box. This is where they belong, not where we want them. Thoughts? |

I agree the writers have tunnel vision and refuse to allow the charaters to change. Brooke will always be written as a man chaser without morals. Thorne second best to ridge and bridget the forgiving long suffering daughter. I am not sure what they plan for rick who supports his mom as long as she agree with him. |

I think you're spot on! I remember once upon a time in soap history when there was a such thing as character development. Let's use Carl Hutchence on AW as an example. For years Carl's only purpose was to destroy the Coreys. He was one heck of a bad guy. Through the years we watched him terrorize the Coreys. Then one day Carl started to change. I can't remember the catalyst that caused it but he started to change and he fell in love with the widow of his nemesis, Rachel Corey. There were a few times where Carl was suspected of going back to his old ways but once they hooked him up with Rachel...wow! Total transformation! He still kept his power and all that but his character actually developed! I could think of at least another 10 characters who developed in the past. Jill Foster Abbott comes immediately to mind as well. Unfortunately, todays head writers don't care about character development. It's all about plot devices and shock value now. Characters are created to be a certain way and they never change. I was going to use Passions as an example of stagnating characters but looking back, the characters on that show do develop. They may still do the same stupid things over and over again but their perspectives change and thereby so does the character. I think if the headwriters could focus more on the characters than the plot, the storylines would write themselves. That's what they used to do. I watched the first episode of Y&R on YouTube and it made me think. If they tried to start a show today using that pilot it would never make it on air. The majority of the episode is of this guy who gets picked up by a man in a truck (I don't remember his name but he was hitchhiking) who is headed to GC. The hitchhiker and the truck driver are just driving and talking. What was cool though was that there were actually driving down a real street! You know how now they just use the blue screen and repeating backgrounds. Well, by the end of the episode the hitchhiker decides that he's going to see what's up in GC. It seemed rather boring but...by the end of the eppy you know he's running from something and you just have to know what. Bill Bell wrote for that character and the storyline just wrote itself. Until these writers learn how to write for and develop their characters we're going to always get the same old stale repeated storylines and the characters will always continue to do the same thing over and over and over again. |

Y&R and B&B are the best shows out here (not my opinion, just fact). They must be doing something right. I think that keeping the characters the same is working for them. |

GL's ratings are soo low, and that's because they are changing the core characters. We say we want it, but when it happens we can't accept it. JMO ITA |

Calpurnia, do you remember when Rachel was "H" on wheels? She gave poor Ada a hard time. She met Mac Corey and did a complete 360 switch. The old Rachel wwould surface every once in awhile when she thought some one was nessing with her children or Mac. Boy, those were the good old days. I guess all those writers have retired. |

brooke is even more insane over her quest to want a man in her life to solve all of her problems.she has always been portrayed as the selfish bedhopper who will do anything to get a man away from a woman. its about winning with her and once she has her consolation prize she will lose interest in him and go back to chasing ridge until she has him back. that is classic brooke on this show. |

I don't want BB to overhaul its core characters, but it would be nice that we see a little change every once in a while. Brooke can chase her men, but does she still have to be portrayed as indecisive as she was as a young 20-year-old? |

Brooke will never change, she will always be the same man chaser she always was. The funny thing is when it comes to a choice between Brooke & Taylor, Taylor always wins out. Brooke is nothing compared to Taylor. |

I was never a huge talyor fan but I have to agree with you, Ladyfran. Brooke is a very selfish person, her and Stephanie are not that far from each other. They both don't mind hurting others to get what they want, the good part for Brooke is that she doesn't go as far as Stephanie, but the good part for Stephanie is that she doesn't always do it just for herself |
