;( I would like to see a more diverse group of people on the soaps. Not only African Americans, but all the different races.

That's what I was going to say. There's not hardly any diversity or races on the soaps.

They need to bring Kristen back, her son Zende was black and her husband Tony was hispanic. Then they can bring back Erik Estrada who was Tony's dad. Amber can come back and bring Usher with her. They also need to show more of Justin. They need to increase B & B to one hour so we can see more characters.

There HAVE been non-caucasians on this show, but imho those have just been token-non-caucasians. They always had quite superficial SLs, so that they can disappear, without a big loss in the show.

This is the way it is with most soaps. Makes you wonder if they have some sort of inside data that shows people would rather watch caucasions. I remember Oprah said something about it was hard to get a black romance off the ground production wise. That's why I like Y and R they have one black family on the show. I find it amazing that many of these shows can bring gay characters on but when comes to other races it's like Asian etc don't exist.

Yeah I think there should be more minorities on soaps too especially AA's bc they don't have production in another country(nope not Africa) like all of the other races do....

I'd love for Marcus to have a bigger s/l. He's just a nice all-around guy. I liked him from day one.

Maybe the shows should increase the minorities writers too, for that matter. I would like to see an African American woman on B&B...maybe for Justin. Give Donna a little nudge...maybe?

And what is even sadder, is that when they do have african americans on the shows, most times (not all) they hook them up with white folks. Why can't Justin have a black woman to be with? Why must Marcus fall for white girls? Why can't they bring maybe a single black woman with a daughter on the show?

You have a very good point.I also agree with the other posters of the writers putting the african americans with the white girls.I mean Justin is so hot I wish they would bring on attractive black or hispanic woman for him.We really need to get more on this show for Justin and Marcus. There are many great actresses out there and I'm sure the would love the work.I say bring them on.

Yea, or they do something stupid like letting a grown man, over 21 be adopted by a white man. Why does it always have to be the AA that get saved by the caucasions?

I would too as I am AA. It is just certain shows. Y&R has had 4-6 AA actors on the show at one time. (The winters family) I believe on OLTL there are at least 4 AA people. Only Bonnie on ATWT. But slowly but surely there are more AA actors being picked up. We need all races and sexual orientations. That is real life. I loved the Olivia and Nat storyline and the gay couple on ATWTs it shows that these are the times.

For the same reason all the young women on the show are stick figures. Because that is what TPTB dictate. TV shows and movies rarely show a real cross-section of life. Everything is bland. (i.e, the new Melrose Place, Gossip Girl, The Hills, etc).

While I as a gay, AA male agree whole-heartedly that there needs to be more diversity in daytime tv, I think first, before all of these characters and actors are brought on, there needs to be good, strong writing in place, with a clear direction and purpose for the character. I would hate to see an Asian American, or a lesbian, or a disabled person brought on just for the sake of the show saying 'we have one of those on our show!'. Too many times people of non-Caucasion decent, or of a different sexual orientation are brought on, but they have no defined place in the big scheme of things. And that is what I hope that daytime can move away from - the 'token' characters, and the bit actors. Give them meaty and juicy roles. Let their lack of presence be missed when they are on vacation or if their character has to go away for awhile. Make them worth having around and CONTRIBUTE to the storylines. Make us want to root them on during the happy times and cry for them during the sad and dissapointing times. Otherwise, in my opinion, there is no need to bring them on at all!
