Quote princesschyrstin: I dunno if anyone watches Y&R but I was just on the message board reading a thread on how they are starting a gay s/l! You should have seen the outrage over there! I couldn't count the times I seen the words (sin), (never watch again) ! I just think its so funny how closed minded people are. If you don't like it don't look at it. Some Americans have the mind set of "if we don't understand it it has to be BAD"! If you guys wanna check it out I think its titled "out of the closet" or something

I did! I think people like that have one huge misunderstanding about what the bible is for in a secular society. The whole gay rights issue has nothing to do with the bible, but individual civil rights.
It is amazing that people would want to bring a religious manual into the laws we make in society, a society that is supposed to be about equality for all.
Also it amazes me how these people are quick to bring the bible into the conversation, but obviously have never read it!!

Well I saw that that thread had disappeared, not really sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing; sometimes I enjoy a good debate!
I really don't understand why some people believe that because they have a certain set of beliefs they feel they get to impose them onto everyone by restricting their rights.

Quote Plot-Twister: Ultimately, IMO what it comes down to is that if you treat someone the way you want to be treated, then you are good. There are so many hypocrits in churchs (just like everywhere else) they slap a fish on their car, go to church and then screw around on their spouse, beat their children, sexually harrass subordinates. I prefer my way. I am much happier. And if I want drama...I come here. LOL!

I agree with you here completly. I think some people need religion, or they like it thats fine. I however dont care for it. I really dont know if there is something I should believe in, but what i do know is I live my life as fair as I can, I am nice to people and animals. I think I live a good life as a decent person.

I just figured out how fake people were in my families church its like the ladies would talk about other ladies and gossip and see who can have the holy ghost the longest. It was just embarrassing I had to attend my uncles funeral a couples of yrs ago at the same church I hadn't been to in 10yrs and everything was excatly the same no upgrades or improvements! But the pastor and the pastors wife were both driving matching benz's its like come on. Went to another church recently for like a carnival and there were atm machines in the church!!!! Can you believe that? That's why I converted

What I liked most about Buddhism, when I looked into about 20 odd years ago, was that the existance of god was an open question that there was no real answer to. The entire focus seemed to be on growing as a person through good works regardless of whether anyone was watching.

Thats why I think some need religion, to be good because they think someone is watching. I think is it makes them a better person that fine. But if they just sin and get forgiven everyweek thats not fine. Just do right because you know you should do right.

ITA!!! I don't really mind people who believe in god as long as they are not trying to convert you or make you feel as if they are somehow better then you because they happen to believe that. Also would agree with another post that most people who go around using the bible to condemn others, more then likely have never read it or understood it.

One of the things I would like to do is read the Bible. I think everyone should whether the belive or not. I think it would be good to know what it says since there is so much debate over the darn book. But from what I understand, and I have never read it is that it can say anything you want it to, depending how you interpret it. Or who is reading it. But I have never read it so I dont really know thats just what I have understood. Then there are many versions to read depending on the faith. So I could be reading forever.

I dont mind if someone asks why I dont go to church or tries to include me in their religious stuff. Thats fine if they are nice about it and back off when I decline.

Personally i believe that spiritual or religious beliefs should be a personal and private matter, and they should keep it to themselves and not go around broadcasting it.
IMO when someone goes around quoting the bible all the time it shows how insecure they are.

I have read the bible a few times and it is a wonderful book! But to me its a storybook like cinderalla it teaches how to have morals and to be kind to people and stand up for what you believe in no matter what! The first time I read the bible I was 5 and it was a childrens bible and I went to grandma and said "I don't think this is real grammy" and she smack me so hard and the face and locked me in her "prayer room" and told me to repent! Know everytime she sees me she tells me how me and my kids are going to hell LOL and I always tell her that the devil stays close to the church but I think the bible is fiction me personally with proof of evolution and stuff so were Adam and Eve monkeys where did that come about !

That's terrible about your grandmother, but then that is how most people get children to believe in the bible, through fear and intimidation. For me the bible doesn't even work as fiction because of all the inconsistencies.

I think thats terrible too about your grandmother. Lots of people here have a terrible story involving church and/or the bible. I dont have stories like that. Myself I sorta think it just goes black when we die. But I dont know. Maybe their is a heaven a hell, who knows. I will find out soon enough I guess. I am glad I dont have someone in my life telling me I am off to hell.

I can see that about the book that is can be sort of a fairy tale. I dont really like when strangers try to talk religion to me, but it depends. I dont mind if someone finds something they think is great and just wants to pass it on. But family can be the worst.

I just find there is no guarantee in an afterlife and we have to make do with what we have here right now. I dont live a super wild crazy life, but I have fun. But I try not to alter anyone elses life in a bad way. I am considerate and try not to talk ill of others behind their back, or take advantage of an oprotunity that may affect someone badly. Even if they deserve it. But I sure have had some nasty thoughts.

Thanks for the sympathy it doesn't bother me because she has chased off most of our family anyways so she sits home alone with her horrible arthrits and thinks about how nobody likes her but I am the same way I am buddhist so I believe in reincarnation. I try to live my life right and be nice to people and give back the best I can. I always respect peoples beliefs and I never preach or try to covert people. And if my children get to the point one day and they believe in god and want to go to a christian churchi will just have to respect their beliefs I don't force my religion on no one including my kids.

I don't think it is a good idea to push religion on a child either. I never understood why people take young children to services anyway, a child under the age of six is not going to get anything from it.
Also another pet peeve of mine with religion are those save the children ads, and now this other one with the woman who used to play the sister on Rosanne. The whole missionary thing I find repugnant! They are not concerned about poverty or starving children, what there real mission is to try and convert people. I never give one red cent to those organizations instead I give money to UNICEF. They give aid to childern and families who are suffering unspeakable poverty due to the greed of richer nations, and they don't use blackmail to do it. Believe like we do and we'll feed you!
I remember years ago I did write to join save the children, and when they sent me the info the young girl I was supposed to sponser was not allowed to go to the catholic school there until she had a uniform and they were writing for additional money to pay for her uniform. The girl is living in extream poverty with no eduaction, and you are not going to give her one until she has the proper uniform? Sickening!!! That's why I only give to UNICEF.
