McCain Guru to GOP: Back Gay Marriage

The architect of John McCain's 2008 campaign for president urged the Republican Party on Friday to drop its opposition to same-sex marriage lest it find itself in the political wilderness for years to come.

"If the party is seen as anti-gay, then that is injurious to its candidates" in Democratic-leaning and competitive states, said Republican strategist Steve Schmidt.

Has someone found a clue???

They have representation...just not the kind they want. I guess their understanding of history is as skewed as their understanding of democracy.
What I find so appalling was during the Bush Admin. how the right wing called protesters unpatrotic, BUT NOW they are the purveyors of dissent! And NOW dissent is a good thing!
Hypocritical sheep everyone!!!

They are such whiney babies! Geesh! isn't there a song out there about not being able to get what you want all of the time...but you get what you need?

What really kills me is that they keep screaming that Obama is going to make us into socialists but what they don't realize is that with China owning us we are going to skip that level and go straight to communism which the fear the most.

I really don't think the majority of them even really knows what socialism is. It has always been a tatic of the right to scream socialism, and commie from the rooftop. Although China does control our debt so they do set the value of the dollar, China has far too many internal problems to overcome that we don't really have, same for India..so I don't think China or India will really become a dominant economic power for a very long time.

I agree that they have some issues to overcome, but they are making money hand over fist and they are reaping the benefit of becoming the meccaland for all things manufactured. In that way, combined with them controlling our debt and coming in and becoming major players in law firms etc....I see them becoming a bigger threat than many people think.

Oh absolutely the tea baggers are benefiting!!! They are first in line with their hands out. You see they do not practice what they preach. The rules do not apply to them. They still want to take just not give. An estimated 50% of the protesters were said to be some type of government assitance. (Only ones to get the day off) They want to have their "tea bagging" and eat it too!

It was really neat in SC. At the same time the tea baggers were protesting there was another protest straight across the street. This protest was "Save Our Schools". This is in direct opposition to the tea bag lovers. The baggers don't want money for schools. It turned in to quite a demonstration as the tea baggers became physical with the ones wanting better educations for all children. Talk about hypocritical. They come out showing their "bags" to try and cut the very money that supports the schools and teachers where THEIR kids are educated. A real shame they cannot connect the dots and find they can not have one without giving up the other. SO just to summarize those folks would rather tea bag than have their kid educated. What an embarrassment.

As a Canadian who recognizes that the US's economy affects my countries, and as a person who considers the rights and opinions of all, I find it rather distrubing to read this thread and see how many of you actually call down in such a disrespectful way, your own country men and women who have the right to peacefully demonstrate their concern for the trillions of dollars of debts your children and grandchildren face.
My own three grandsons, who are American citizens, living in California, face huge debt, over one hundred thousand dollars in interest payments alone on that debt before they ever reach the age of 20, according to all analyst.

Lila, I get what you are saying, but many of us find the things that are written in the republican thread to be just as offensive. That is why we have different no bash threads. I don't have much time right now, but will comment more later.

Okay, I just went into the republican thread and read through the last few pages. I see nothing to rival the rather vile way of calling ones own fellow country men and women "tea baggers". The whining etc... whatever, but to show such offensively disrespect for another's legitimate opinion and desire to peacefully demonstrate unhappiness with big governmnet and it's results. Some of the American news stations were just as bad.
And from what I saw the people demonstrating appeared to be from all walks of life, I even saw a sign Republicans suck too, so obviously there were Democrats demonstrating as well.
Insulting their intelligence, and calling them "tea baggers". Why go there? The tea was an acronym for "Taxed enough already", and the Boston Tea party signifance was in my opinion rather inspired.
Just seems rather disloyal to ones country that has supposedly given the right to every one to demonstrate, to be so vulgarly insulting. JMO as your friend and neighbor. Not to mention a grandparent of three gorgeous American boys who may have been demonstrating if they were old enough, and are definately not "tea baggers". In fact to use that particular phrase to describe so many of your fellow Americans, and the definition that some smart azzed brothers of yours have put on the Internet for all to see makes me soooo glad to be Canadian, and want to rush down and rescue my grandsons from their own country.
BTW... I am not singling any one out in particular, but it is the offensive slur I object to.

Like I was saying....Teabaggers was not something that just came up on this board...it was all over the place on news channels. The demonstrating was from all walks of life, which further solidifys my opinion that people don't know what they are demonstrating against. I find it ironic that people (not you perse) object to the term "teabaggers" but "f ag" "pansy" "que er" all are acceptable. It is acceptable to judge people based upon their sexuality, so why then is it not fair to judge people on thier ignorance or knowledge of a subject that they chose to demonstrate against? I am all for demonstrating.....if you know what you are doing. If you look at it from all sides. Further...the Taxed enough already was rooted in the representation issue which was England. So to replicate that demonstration really, in my opinion, fell short of really achieving their objective. People who demonstrated against vietnam were called names. Look at Jane Fonda....Dukakis lost an election primarily because of the "tank" photo....so I guess my question is why get upset when the criticism is on the other party?

But again, this is supposed to be a safe haven. You and I get along, and I don't really want that to end, but please understand and respect that both of these threads (dem and rep) are not for debate, the are havens. People would be more than happy to discuss this if you opened another thread. Perhaps not me, I am doing another movie night with my kids and politics tends to get me worked up..even though I am watching the hulk (yawn) and other comic movies...but open a thread and have a discussion there.

Have a good night.

AMEN to THAT!!! I think that's why it says no bash at the top!!!
The people who were demonstrating on Wednesday were demonstrating against tax laws that have not even been enacted yet!! And Obama's tax plan will increase the wealthy by about 3%, Middle Class, and the working poor will get TAX CUTS! So basically they were protesting aginst themselves, and for rich corporations! They were duped and they didn't even catch on because they were really anger that a black man is in the white house!

As Plot said this thread is not an arguing or disagreeing thread. That is why it was created as a place away from that avenue. It was actually created by the mods to prevent arguing. Also the term "Tea bagging" was labeled just that by "the protesters" themselves. In fact many in the crowds were wearing tea bags all over themselves. Ladies had on hats with tea bags hanging all around the brim and men had them on labels and hats as well. The very news station "FOX" that was supporting the protest called it a "Tea Bag party. They even had the name "tea bagging" on the screne as they reported live from the locations. The protesters seem to have no problem with it or they would not have named it that themselves. I am sorry that you do not want your family living here in our country so by all means feel free to come and get them like you stated. But there is much more to the whole issue than what you are aware of. I am sure that your family here uses tax built roads, use tax paid for schools for their kids with tax paid for teachers. I am sure that if they are in danger or in an emergency they use the tax paid for 911 emergency system to get the tax paid for police and sheriff department. If they were in a traffic accident who would help them if there was not tax money for to get ambulances and emergency people there. People really need to stop and think about ALL the tax paid for things they take for granted and use everyday. It would be a shame if people just had to lay there and die because there were no one to help. That is what it would be without tax dollars. And that is just a very few of the thousands of things that tax money is used for that is needed and used by all that live here. If one of those protesters got mugged on the way home I am sure they would want that tax paid officer to come when they called. What about landfills? If not for tax dollars all the garabage would just be thrown and stack everywhere and there would be no tax enforced law to prevent it. I appreciate your opinion but like was already stated, to argue this point please open a thread that is not created purposely to avoid such. Maybe you can post in the Republican thread if they are the ones you agree with on this issue. Have a great rest of your weekend and please start a thread on your opinion!!!

Hello

I just wanted to reiterate and enforce what has been said already by a few posters in this thread. This particular thread along with the Republican no bash thread were opened strictly as safe havens for each party. If you are against a particular party or the views of the particular party then I suggest opening a new thread to debate different issues or post in the parties safe haven thread that is most likely to agree with your differing opinion. Both of these threads have been a safe spot and we need to make sure these two threads stay a peaceful safe place for each party to talk.

Thank you
Kathryn
