i was listening to stephanie miller, a liberal talk show host this morning, she had a guest on, it was near the end of the segment and i did not get his name, anyway, he equated the current state of things like the US is in a boat in a huge storm, the logical thing to do would be to have everyone on the boat work together to survive the storm, what a concept!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a March 6 article, headlined " 'Obama Bear Market' Punishes Investors as Dow Slumps," Bloomberg News reported: "President Barack Obama now has the distinction of presiding over his own bear market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 20 percent since Inauguration Day, the fastest drop under a newly elected president in at least 90 years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg." Similarly, in a March 6 Wall Street Journal op-ed headlined "Obama's Radicalism is Killing the Dow," Michael J. Boskin, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President George H.W. Bush, wrote: "It's hard not to see the continued sell-off on Wall Street and the growing fear on Main Street as a product, at least in part, of the realization that our new president's policies are designed to radically re-engineer the market-based U.S. economy, not just mitigate the recession and financial crisis." By contrast, the Financial Times' Dan McCrum stated on the March 3 edition of MSNBC Live that "it's the economy which is driving the market down here" and that "what's important is that President Obama doesn't try to address that in the short term. He's quite right that short-term market movements aren't -- shouldn't be driving government policy. What he needs to do is concentrate on fixing the economy, and the market will sort itself out."

Indeed, the Dow Jones industrial average was on a downward trajectory months before the election. Bloomberg News itself acknowledged in the article that "[t]he Dow entered its most recent bear market on July 2, 2008, when a 167-point decrease gave it a 20 percent loss from its record 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007" but ignored the possibility that the current drop in the Dow was a continuation of the earlier trend:

By 7:29:05 a.m. ET on March 6, Internet gossip Matt Drudge highlighted the Bloomberg article on his website with the headline "WIRE: 'Obama Bear Market' Punishes Investors as Dow Tumbles 20% ...":

FoxNews.com also reported on March 6:

The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen faster under President Obama than under any new president in at least 90 years, according to a review conducted by Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reports that since Inauguration Day, the Dow has fallen 20 percent, leading at least one investor to dub this the "Obama bear market." The Dow has also dropped 31 percent since Election Day.

U.S. News and World Report's Political Bulletin subsequently highlighted Boskin's Journal op-ed under the heading "Is Obama Hurting The Stock Market?"

As Media Matters for America previously documented, during the March 3 edition of MSNBC Live, anchor Contessa Brewer stated, "Since Election Day, the Dow Jones industrial average has dropped nearly 3,000 points. It's shed a quarter of its value in just the past two months." But the Dow was on a downward trajectory months before the election, dropping 3,738 points from May 2, 2008, to November 3, 2008, and the drop did not start on Election Day, as MSNBC suggested.

Ask FactCheck posted these new items
during the week ending March 6, 2009
(Follow links to read complete answers)

Q: Is the fairness doctrine coming back, and would it shut down conservative talk radio?
A: Obama has made it clear he opposes it. If it were revived, it probably would reduce the overall number of radio hours devoted to conservative talk shows.

Digg!

Q: Does Rahm Emanuel pay property taxes?
A: The president's chief of staff does pay taxes on his home. Failed attempts to find his records are the fault of shoddy research.

Digg!

Q: Is Congress about to give Social Security to illegal immigrants?
A: Congress hasn't voted on any measure to pay benefits to illegal immigrants, and has no plans for any such vote.

Thanks for all the information, it's important that people know the truth. I was so shocked by the hostility directed towards me, but what was really shocking was that person either didn't read what I posted, or didn't understand what I was writing. My main point being the man has been in office 45 days, it may take some time for his policies to have any effect. My point about Regan was that it took 2 years for his policies to have an effect.

Welcome to the lounge Robotart

I agree 45 days and already people arent giving him a chance to make a difference. He was working hard to do that by making decisions he did and starting his job before Jan 20th. Bush would have been on vacation before, during and after the inauguration.

Thanks! The man inherited 1.3 trillion dollars of debt, the largest debt in the history of the country.

Boy have you got that right!!! Remember!!!! Bush spent 3 FULL years out of his 8 in Crawford, Texas. That does not include all the other vacations he took to other places. He averaged 11 vacations per year. Thank God for that I guess. Less time to screw us like he did.

Oh just think how wonderful things where just 45 days ago...You know, before Obama was president. You know back in December when the stock market was soaring, we had more jobs than any 2 countries could fill and there were no soldiers dying in a war we should never have got into because it did not concern us? Just remember 45 days ago when sick people could see doctors and the economy was sky rocketing????? Oh the goods old days 45 days ago!!!! Can't wait to tell our grandchildren about the good ole "W" years!!!!........... LMAO at people believing that shi#....

Anyway, i agree Wanna and so does more then 1/2 of this country. The continued negitive talk about the dems and President Obama is stubborness on their part. When things start to turn around they will still put him down. Dont even worry about it. It's bs.

I have come to the conclusion no matter how bad the Republicans mess up our country it's always the Democrats that get the blame they don't want to admit what a bad President Bush was they just had something on the TV the other day about Bush and Cheney ordering the FBI to destroy 93 tapes because they didn't want anyone to see what was on them.

I am sure I will be seen by some as a poster basher or whatever, but I say if you can't take the heat don't post ridiculous things!!! The only papers that made a stink about Obama's gifts to The British PM were The Daily Mail, and The Telegraph, the two leading conservative papers in the UK. Does anyone know what PM Brown gave to Obama?
A wooden pen holder and a first edition copy of a biography of Winston Churchill. I personally would love to have AFI's top 25 films on DVD.
And as for not having a large press conference. Brown recieved the same type of press conference all visiting dignitaries have, plus Brown addressed both houses of congress, which was internationally televised.

An English humorist once wrote about the english press and it's readers as follows:
Times readers run the country,
Telegraph readers think they run the country,
Guardian readers wish they ran the country,
Mirror readers would run the country if the Times readers didn't run it already,
Mail readers don't know who runs the country,
Express readers don't care who runs the country,
and Sun readers don't give a damn who runs the country as long as her measurements exceed 38-24-36.
