Eppy.. How do you make your red spiced cabbage?
I use to make a sweet and sour fried red cabbage years ago.
Yummy!

Yummy!

2-3 tablespoons bacon drippings
4 cups shredded red cabbage
2 cups cubed unpared apple
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 teaspoon caraway seed

Heat drippings in skillet. Add remaining ingredients and some pepper. Cover and cook over low heat, stirring once in awhile - about 30 minutes. Enjoy (this might be your sweet and sour recipe)

Eppy... Thank you! I will have to try your recipe.

Mine didn't have the apple or the caraway seeds.. But it's close..

I always liked it with a nice pork roast.

I like to cook it in a very slow oven, so you want to start it early. Use a rub for the roast. Any of your favorite herbs and some seasoning salt. Put it in a roasting pan on a rack like if you were cooking a turkey and add a little bit of liquid smoke and water to the bottom of the pan. If you slow cook your roast it turns out so moist and juicy.

The contrast between the sweet fried cabbage and the smokey taste of the pork is wonderful!

Note: You can not make gravy with the drippings though. The liquid smoke is pretty strong tasting.

Sounds like a super method of cooking your pork roast! I agree, I like cabbage with pork roast or chops too!

Okay - thanks. I'm going to try that. I like the idea of buying in bags, and then only taking out what you can use. I would only use two at a time.
