Quote Sunnydaz:
Quote alwaysEJ: Regarding Cindy McCain, her father was a wealthy man & so she has tons & tons of money. Her father earned all of it - started with nothing - & Cindy has been generous over the years with both her money & her time. If my husband were being nominated to serve as President of the U.S. & I was going to be on national television, I'd spend a good bit on my outfit(s)too. I haven't really heard anything about what her clothes cost, but I thought she looked great.

Really? Wow not me. I guess i would feel guilty spending $300,000.00 on one dress while millions are having trouble paying for everyday life. But thats just me.

I don't really care about how she spends her money, but I know I can look damn good for a couple hundred. I don't think I have ever paid that kind of money for anything. But, heck, it is her money, spend it like she wants. Like I said earlier, it didn't bother me about Edward's $300 haircut either.

I would never spend that much on a dress either, & I have not read anywhere that she did. I am just saying that she has given a lot back in her life, & I don't think the cost of her clothes is a big deal especially on what is perhaps the biggest occasion of her husband's life.

Plot - I agree on cordial. I also readily admit I have a lot to learn where the economy is concerned & other than the difference in their tax plans, I don't know what either of these candidates have said regarding the economy or what they plan to do. It is a mess in many ways for sure. And I wasn't a big fan of the help the feds gave the airlines.

A lot to learn here for me like I said.

Editing to say: I like you too Sunny!

$300 is considered "buying off the rack" at Penney's, Macy's, Dillard's, stores like that! I don't believe Nordstrom knows what a sticker looks like at $300. My idea of buying of the rack is WalMart, K-Mart, and sometimes when I get a whim it will be Fashion Bug maybe even Dress Barn!

Gee, I wonder who else buys off the rack at all of these stores?

Cindy's dress was an Oscar de la Renta for: $3,000
She wore a Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch for: $4,500
and Three-carat diamond earrings for: $280,000
and Four-strand pearl necklace for : $11,000-$25,000
and her Shoes for: $600

The Grand Total was somewhere between $299,100 and $313,100

It is easy to see that most of this cost came from her jewelry and not the dress alone. And that I think is understandable. I wear about $3500 in jewelry daily and my husband and I only make a combined 40,000/year. People like to look nice for big events that large numbers of people will see and pictures will be taken of. My wedding dress alone was worth 1700, and the jewelry wasn't cheap either. And I'm not rich. She looked very tasteful anyways, I thought.

Have we reverted to the JFK era where all women could talk about was how fashion conscience Jackie was? This is sad!

lol, this is the only thread I'm not afraid to touch for fear of feeding the fire. And for the record, I wasn't talking about her fashionability, only that she didn't look over the top and rediculous considering how much everything cost... I certainly wouldn't have looked at her and said that she breathed money, not unless I was close enough to see those diamonds.
