Thanks to Everyone for reading and responding.

I want to add that 80% of lung cancers are large cell cancers. Some references are made to them as non small cells.

20% are small cell cancers. Just wanted to add some statistical facts.

1 out of every 15 homes in the US is emitting radon gas. It has no odor. That is another contributing factor in developing lung cancer. I have asked my husband to have our house tested.

Iowa is one of the states w/the highest amount of radon gas being found in homes.

I'm so glad you started this topic, Dakota - this is such a critical issue. I know that cigarettes aren't the only cause of lung cancer, but they're sure the reason a lot of the time.

If you're a smoker, maybe you'll get lucky, like me, and only have two major heart attacks, have half of one of your lungs removed, and be forced into early retirement - instead of deadly lung cancer.

And make no mistake; my health problems were caused by genetics and SMOKING. Thirty-five years and two packs a day.

If you smoke, please, please, please don't put the people you love through the hell of watching you suffer. Don't quit for yourself, quit for them.

PLEASE.

Hey Dakota/Denise

As you can see, you have many many prayers going up for you and your mom.

Many things can contribute to lung cancer, but smoking can do nothing but harm to all parts of our body. I am so glad to see this message for you to help many others understand.

My father started working in the (W.Va.) coal mines when he was only 12 years of age. Continued off and on for many years. Then he worked with railroad cars full of Steel and other ores at the Union Carbide Co for many years. Therefore he got coal dust, steel dust, and was a heavy smoker of unfiltered camel cigs, and roll-your-own.

Also think of all the money going up in smoke .

Love ya, I'll eventually get around to getting your email add from Luvda or someone.

Joretta

anyone needing extra incentive to quit should move to ny. the tax on a pack of cigarettes just went up to $2.75 today. that makes the price of a single pack, depending on the brand, $7 -$10 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that equals two gallons of gas.

That's amazing. We pay 3 something here in FL and that's outrageous. I remember 50cents a pack!!

My daughter has found a web site she really likes, and she has been to a few before! It is http://community.becomeanex.org
She says the people are great and so supportive.
