I was trying to keep it down to ten...but I LOVE "Mr. Blandings"!!!! I guess I should have said anything Cary Grant!!!

If you haven't seen "Scarlet Pimpernel" (1934 or 1939?) with Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon, it is sooooo good! I like to honor Howard for the fact that he was allegedly a spy, I guess in the "guise" as an entertainer, for Great Britain in WWII and was shot down flying over the Bay of Biscayne. And of course he was Ashley Wilkes in "Gone With The Wind".

If you want an old movie dealing with modern issues, try "Theodora Goes Wild" with Irene Dunne and Melvyn Douglas (he was also in "Mr. Blandings...").

I truly wish that I had written to some of these "elderly statesmen" to let them know how much I appreciated their work, but they have passed on...they were certainly wonderful!!!

Oh yes, I've seen the Leslie Howard version of the Pimpernel. Yes, I remember about his participation in the war. Melvyn Douglas is also one of my all time favorites - he was remarkable as Paul Newman's father in Hud. More of my other favorite old timers:
Meet me in St. Louis
Music Man
Now Voyager
Born Yesterday
Picnic
(and on and on).
Nice to meet a classic movies fan.

Hi, all:

I will have to rent "Now Voyager"....

Also loved the old "Topper" movie.

Eppy, I like the term "classic movies fan".....rather than "old movies fan"!

One more, I am not a Streisand fan, but love "Funny Girl"---pre egomania, I guess.

I love many of the Musicals plus I will never pass up a film noir detective or gangster move. Anyone remember Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade or Chester Morris as Boston Blackie?
