Quote Dakota 4762: Good Evening outland: It is close to 7pm here in NY. I think you are six hours ahead of me in Germany. That really is awful about your heat situation. The cost of oil is so high in the states that I try to keep my thermostats at 60.
I just got back from the gym and grocery shopping. Today was beautiful weather and tomorrow is supposed to be messy, so I wanted to go out and enjoy the weather a little bit.
I am glad that tonight we are having leftovers so I get a night off from cooking. I will see you tomorrow on the Daily Comment Section. Have a Good Evening!! Grub,,,

Hi Dakota! Tuesday morning at 10:30 here! My heating is now repaired. THANK GOD!!! We were freezing and it was minus degrees outside... brrrrrrrrrrrr

I have been underways alot yesterday and couldn't really get on board here, but thank you for the Grüß! I loved it!!!

My daughter is dressed up like a good fairy today, because they are celebrating Fasching in the school.

Fasching is a ritual and tradition in Germany, it begins in November with the kidnapping of the princess... Every borough has their own prince and princess pair (you have to donate a whole lot of money to qualify and the one who pays the most is then awarded the title for one year).

On New Years Eve, (this is called Rummel Pot)all the vagabunds go from door to door and sing a song, begging for a treat. Kids get sweets and Adults get schnapps, wine, champagne.... Also hier, everyone dresses up in costumes... at midnight, all the vagabunds (I guess everyone is a vagabund then...) go out to celebrate the new year with wishes of a more prosperous one to come and send up Rockets and Fireworks... After which the party starts!

In the mean time, the councils all over the country (They put on Costumes that look like marching-band clothing), and have shows with Scripts that are all in Rhyme, acrobatics, comedy skits, singing, dancing... You can turn on any local station on tv durng this time about 8 o'clock in the evening to watch these shows. They are so funny!
The prince searched all over the land for his sleeping princess and on Fasching Sunday, he finds her.

On Rosen Monday, the whole land comes out to celebrate the uniting of the princely pair by getting dressed up in costumes, watching the many parades all over Germany and getting smashed. They call this Carnival. It is very colourful and alot of fun for everyone. The whole country lights up.

On Tuesday til about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, everyone goes to work. This is Waldches Day. Waldches day isn't celebrated in all of Germany, just some states. The winter is frightened away and now we can begin to have springtime! Anyway, there are festivities celebrated in the woods and so (Wald = Woods)like drinking in huts or really in bars... which pretty much wraps up the season. I love it, there are sooooooooooooo many different cultural rites and traditions here. It is like living in a fantasy even though it is 2008! That and the Bier is probably why I will never leave Germany!! =))

So as I was saying, my daughter is now dressed up as the good fairy... she looks beautiful and she feels that way, too! It is also really good weather today, well so far! The sun broke though the greyness and the wind is almost still. Perfect day for the kids to parade around outside and to enjoy cheering the princely pair on as they go by in the parade.. throwing sweets and money to the loyal vagabunds, witches, gowls, ghosts, cowboys, Indians, Incredible characters, housewifes... the costumes are wonderful... wish you all were here! To get an idee of what I have just described, goto youTube.com and give in: Fasching parade or Fastnacht

Grüß,

Outland!

Good Fat Tuesday Morning ALL:

outland: That was interesting to read about your customs in Germany. I am sure that your daughter is on a high over this. I am glad that you have gotten your heat situation fixed. It was funny to read that " the adults get schnapps". I haven't had that in a long time. I am a wine person. I have had some awesome German wines. Not Reisling. I don't like sweet wines, only dry. I can't remember the grape. I usually prefer a dry red over white but it depends on what I am eating. I used to work for the Culinary Institute and I come from a family of chefs, so food and wine is my passion. See, I am true to our shared name..."goddess of wine". (LOL)
I love when the daily comment board is hopping. I am a Gemini. Gemini's like to be where the action is!!

Hi Blunt Passion! WELCOME!!! I like to keep things short so if you have nothing against it, I would like to write PB when I am speaking to you. It just makes it easier for the thoughts to flow from the head to the hand!

So, as I see, we have alot in common, too! That's cool, looking forward to chatting more with you!

The Patriots played a good game but the Giants had the luck. Happy over alot of things, like i.e., it is warm in Germany... at least in my house. Good morning ladies...outland, Dakota dwebster, ladygg and new poster BluntPassion, welcome!

Outland- WOW is all I can say about the Super Bowl!!! It didn't really matter to me what team won as I'm not a fan of either and especially not of Tom Brady who played his college football at the University of Michigan, which is Ohio State's major rivalry. But, like so many, I was glued to the tv the entire game, just couldn't shut it off and the last 2 minutes were unbelievable. I am thrilled for Eli Manning and head coach Tom Coughlin, best Super Bowl to watch in years!!!

I also loved reading about Fasching, I am just intrigued with learning so much about different cultures, religions, customs. Our faculty is from all over the world, staff and visitors I come in contact with; I've learned some interesting facts about Ramadan, Jewish customs, it's all so fascinating to me to sit and talk and learn how people live their lives all across the world.

Glad you got your heating problems squared away, I had to have a thermostat replaced yesterday, noticed it was making weird noises late Saturday afternoon. Fortunately it wasn't too cold outside that it was uncomfortable in the house.

Dakota- I love a nice glass of Reisling, which is my fav!! They say a red wine is good for the heart, so I may have a glass of Merlot from time to time, not often though.

Hope everyone is faring well healthwise, my two daughters have both had the flu the past couple of days, and have spent at least two days in bed so it's not the 24 hour kind of flu. I am so hoping I do not get what they've had.

My future son in law had a car accident on the way to work this morning, it's pouring rain here complete with thunder and lightening and apparently he fish-tailed and hit a concrete wall, sustained damage to both front and rear of his car, he's shaken up but not hurt. His mom and I still want him to get checked out to be sure. We're not doing so well on the roads lately!!

Let's see, what else while I have a few minutes, Lisa (daisy) hasn't posted yet this week, I hope everything is all right with her. I emailed her on Thursday, haven't gotten a response from my second email so I hope everything is ok with her and her son. I worry about folks when I don't hear from them in a while.

Oh, I am an Aries, not so much into zodiac signs so I don't know if that's good or bad! (birthday is April 4th.

I know what I wanted to ask, how can I catch episodes of B&B on youtube? I had a bookmark and somehow it disappeared!

That's all for now. Chat again later!

Cindy

Good Morning Everyone,

I'm going to this website Fastnacht as soon as I have finished posting here.

I too love to hear about different customs. We have two people here who speak fluent German. Me, I can barely speak English.

I'm Italian and should love wine but can't stand the taste of it. Weird isn't it.

I'm also diabetic so alcohol turns to sugar so If I did like it I would be in trouble.

I also sent Lisa an email last week and have not heard from her. This isn't like her. I hope her medical appointment with Cody went well.

Couple of interesting posts today at B&B. I'm glad in the end we are all still friends. I don't get offended by anything anyone says over there.

Talk to you on the other side after the show posts.

Diane

girly 51 and dwebster: I am glad that you both came over to post today.

girly: I am surrounded by aries. My mom, my brother,(his b-day is April 3rd,close to yours) my mother-in-law, my deceased father-in-law was too, plus cousins... Aries is a very strong willed sign and quite ambicious. I don't drink Reisling because it is sweet for me but I like all the dry whites and reds. What happened to daily 671 last week? She said it was really bad. What happened to her? Also, what is going on w/you family and car accidents? I need to send you good Karma...OKay sending Plus good health!!

dwebster: I left you a message in the DC section earlier. I love to debate w/all of you. Lately, I have been taking Taylor's side for the most part but there are days I side w/ Brooke and she will do something that will impress me..or shock me. I have to agree w/girly 51. I am for the strong woman and family. To me, that is how I debate it. I want these women to be shown in a strong light, independent of these men who are losers!!

Dakota- I cannot explain our vehicle nightmares recently...I used to be dinner conversation in my younger days having been in so many car accidents in my early 20's, one of which was a fatality in 1976, I'll never forget that one. Might explain why I don't like to drive so much now in the city, now when I go home to visit, which is a smaller rural type community, I don't mind the drive at all.

I emailed Lisa (daisy671) last week, but I would rather she share with you what's been going on. You have her email address, I'm sure she'd love hearing from you.

I agree with what you said about strong women, they show these women as weak, needy, whiney and threatened; I guess that's why I get so aggravated with the writing. For me, right now, I have no favs on B&B, I'm all about family, simple, uncomplicated lifestyle. I wish they'd go back to how they presented the show years ago when it was about the Forrester family, fashion and elegance and about Steph not liking Brooke, the girl from the valley not good enough for her family...it wasn't the malicious, destructive, hateful behavior we're seeing now. They've taken SL's to a whole new level, a level that's unrealistic and sometimes shocking. I wonder if they took it to an hour long show, add characters and write more SL's that are believable if it would be beneficial. Sometimes I wonder if the current writer's are half asleep, drunk or could just really care less about how the viewers perceive such nonsense.
