No one can go South Now so that there are now 4 lanes for the evacuees can drive on to break down some of the congestion. I know we will get a lot of rain, probably wind. The Higher the Category, the higher the chances of having a lot of wind. The thing that makes me nervous is my neighbors next door have 4 huge Pine Trees and the neighbors next door have some big pecan trees. Anyone of them can go boom on my house  ! During Katrina, they looked like they were doing Richard Simmons exercises. Thanks for caring! be careful, you got Hanna the Banana on your tail! We're pretty set as far as supplies go. I have to work in one of the 4 shelters set up here. Hopefully it will be just rain.....I think I'm gonna say a Novena to St. Jude!I check in later! |

Quote tufenuf: it is 11:45p est. sunday night, and i cannot sleep. i feel i must be up and pray for all the people in the path of hurricane gustav. my thoughts and prayers go to our sisters who have had to evacuate like gypys/cheryl. i pray you made it to your place of safety. i pray for your son as he traveled for safety also. i pray for ryno, who is working at shelter in her home state; all the while taking care of her family. there are a lot of people like ryno, who have work/responsiblities and cannot evacuate but must stay and serve others. being a native floridian, i know what it feels like to have a monster of storm threatening to destroy everything you have had worked all your life for. but more important, the urgency to protect your family. tonight and tomorrow, as you mind wonders, remember our sisters and pray for them and their loved ones. linda Oh Tuffy, you make me sound so noble....I did have an offer to go to Memphis with my college roomie, but my parents are here in addition to me being on call and it is mandatory that we volunteer....I just got in from the shelter. There are people who have been driving for 2 days because of the traffic. Some didn't bring all their medication with them, some brought their puppy dogs with them and little chillin! There was a family from Indianna who had come for the birth of their first grandchild in LA and were evacuating with the new mom and a Mexican Family that spoke pequeno Ingleis. (little english) I speak just enough to get me in trouble and not enough to get me out! Cari- I wish I had a way of contacting you earlier as I was bumbling my way through the Intake Preguntas! (Questions. It's still quite warm - 81 degrees. There are no stars out tonight.....a forshadow of tomorrow....The Gas Stations are starting to run out of gas, I did top off mine. I am feeling somewhat guilty because I convinced my mom to cancel the meals on wheels (A program that my church takes lunch to shut ins on Mondays) because I hated to use my gas (when I an unsure of when I can fill back up again....thought I will have status as a Govt, worker) ButI did hear that Gustave should be in our area between 10:00am and 1:00 pm and I really don't want to run the risk of being out there in my car.....I'm charging up my cell phone so If we lose our phones I can text and I have my Onstar Phone, however the trick is that you have to have someone that will answer and all my family are in the same boat I am! HA! I ramble on sorry.......Tuffy, If you are still awake, I am too! I gave the dog a bath so when she comes in she won't stink so bad. I'll have to put her in the bathroom because she likes to pee on the rug......I've never been able to convince her otherwise, hence she is an outside doggie. |

One more thing, I really appreciate all your thoughts and concern. I really feel like ya'll are family, It's really neat to know ya'll are all out there with you're prayers and good wishes. I think that is why I like this site so much, I really look forward to reading your post each day.... (Hey suchi- watch out, I may take over and do a whole column like you do! HA!) |

I hope Cheryl (gypsymama) Is making out okay. I know that hse had to evacuate. I heard from another friend who is doing fine after the worst part of the storm was over. It all depends which side of the storm you were on. |
