Canadian health care system., tell us what it 's really like!

There is a movie by Michale Moore and he promotes a Gov. run healthcare system, so to all Canadians what is your take on medical coverage?

Well, it's awesome, yes we have had tons of cut backs..and it sucks..but its so nice to know you can get medical treatment and not have to worry about paying the bill. (In most cases) Hospital stays are free, in most cases, unless you want a private room. I am soo happy we have it.

Do you always get to choose your doctor? Are there sometimes waits for operations?

I've had the same doctor for over 40 years he just retired and I just picked another one. I haven't had an operation in over 19 years and that was a C-Section.

I have heard of the heath care system there and that it is very good. My ex-sister in law has cancer and her & her present hubby moved up there just for that reason! I don't have insurance so I might be tempted to do the same thing if something like that happened to me!!

I'm not holding my breathe for it to pass in the US, TOO MUCH MONEY to be lost by doctors, drug companies and the like to ever pass here, IMO.

I hear you OGmare if we held our breath we die.. heaven forbid if the Drug companies and the Doctors lose any money
it's a money making profit for them.. we have friends who live in Midland ONT and they love the health care!

That sounds great. I was just in the hospital last month with a heart problem. 3 days in the hospital and a heart catherization was 25,000.

My Uncle was in and out of the hospital for years with heart problems didn't cost him a thing.

I remember when my son was hit by the car (2004) what it would of cost if we didn't have insurance..(over 30 thousand).i'm glad hubby works for GM but it's a shame that
alot of people in the US don't have the health care they should.not because they don't want it.. it's because of the GREEDY S.O.B's in the Drug Companies and the Doctors..I think it's great that EVERYONE in Canada has some kind of health care!

I live in Ontario and we have EXCELLENT health care .. I have a choice of any doctor .. or you can go to the walk in clinic .. if you are sent to see a specialist its also covered .. my husband has a great drug plan at work we only pay 2.00 for a perscription. We had to have fertility treatments to have my daughter .. then I had a c section it was all covered.
My dad had a hugh bypass operation .. free
battling cancer .. free
broken bones ... free
stitches .. free

Since I don't make much money even a portion of my prescriptions are paid for.
