Here is how I potty trained my puppies. First off never punish them for going potty indoors. That only confuses them (they'll think going potty is a bad thing. They don't understand going inside the house is bad) and it makes them scared of you. If you do see that they are starting to go potty inside clap your hands to distract them and take them outside quickly while at the same time saying to them in a happy friendly voice "let's go outside!" (Pennies in a can work for a great distraction also.) Whenever they wake up (whether it's in the morning or from a nap) take them outside. I always carried my puppies outside for the first few weeks of being potty trained (until they got the picture) because otherwise they will squat before ever reaching the door. And try to be consistent with the same door so when they do begin to understand they'll know which door to whine at. Take them outside to go potty after they've eaten and after they've been playing for a little bit. If your puppy is playing and then all of a sudden strays off, it is usually a good indicator that he needs to go potty. I always stayed outside with my puppy when they were first starting out and I always carried a bag with treats in it so that as soon as they finished going potty I would say in a happy friendly voice "good puppy!" and give them a treat. Everytime you are fixing to take them outside you should probably always say those three words I mentioned earlier "let's go outside!" I hope I covered everything to help you all get started. If I remember anything else I'll type in. Just remember to use happy friendly voices no matter how angry you may get at them. They are just babies |

I mentioned be to consistent with using the same door, but it's also very important to be consistent through the whole process of the potty training. Good luck gals! Hope everything works out. |

Awe, I don't think she meant that. I thought your advice was perfect. I took my dog to an obedient training school at a young age and that's exactly what they taught me. It works beautifully! It's the best way I've seen to effectively ensure puppies learn well. |

When I had him, well, actually before, I purchased him, I did SERIOUS research. I no longer, have Peanut Butter, BUT, I have observed, some SERIOUS PET LOVING people, namely, MONA LISA...on The Guiding Lights site. Respectfully, Hunter~ |

Confining them to a small area is a good idea too..They won't go potty in their own beds-- |
