my pictures, those are hard to replace and try to get some clothes

This happened to us once--it was very intersting to see the things that were most important to each family member-

i'm sorry that happened to you i know it has to be hard starting all over,go tto the chit chat on oltl board we can talk more.

I have a big box with all of my wedding keepsakes and family pics in it. That is what I would grab. I keep them all together just in case there were ever a situation like that and I had to grab them fast.

My husband Eddie, would pick his laptop, because we have to have 1 computer! LOL Hunter~

I would save any pictures and the things I keep for memories as I could.

When I had a fire in my house the only thing we thought of grabbing was the dog...The only thing you think of when you actually have a fire is getting every family member out of the house...

My older son did a smart thing, but didn't tell the rest of us to do it... He closed his bedroom door and put a towel on the bottom of the door. It prevented the smoke from going in... His room was the only room without much smoke damage... He did have a little but all his things were saved.

When we got out and was watching the fire, waiting for the fire department..... I wanted to go back in to get the camcorder, lol so I can tape the fire...but my son held me back and told me not to go in the house.....I also wanted to back in to see what I could grab....but that wasn't a good idea..they say once you are out of the house NEVER go back in. The fire was contained to one room....but the smoke and water damage got the entire house.... Luckily we were able to salvage our pictures......the albums needed to be thrown away, but the pictures were still good.... Vinegar takes out smoke from clothes....

It was a tramatic time for the whole family..... When we finally got back into the house, 6 months later...one of my daughters had packed a little bag..and kept it by the door, with all her precious little valuables...I asked her why she had the bag there...and she said if ever there was a fire again, she would be able to have some of her stuff with her....since from the fire all of her toys etc...were badly smoked and water logged and she lost them all......

One thing I did learn was that PEOPLE are the most important things to take out of the fire. Pets are next.... THINGS can always be replaced, but people can't. Out family of 6 had to live in two trailors in the yard for 6 months. The reason for two trailors, was we couldn't get a double wide... My kids were complaining about living in the trailors and I would tell them.....we are lucky... we are living in the trailors with the whole family... There is another family living in trailors also....but they are missing two of their children who didn't get out... At least we are all safe and alive.... That put everything in perspective.....

My Mom & Dog's ashes. They are right next to each other. Everything else can be replaced. Their remains can't.
