Ok just in the recent days all of a sudden women don't need mammograms until age 50, just on the news today..pap smears are not needed for three years?

Hmmmm is this the preparation for the new "universal healthcare" ?

And just a side note...why is it's womens health issue's at stake? Not that I want it or agree, but why is there no limit on Prostate exams...and WHY is VIAGRA covered by most insurances????????

Apparently there is talk of changing prostate recommendations too. And this in my opinion, is just the tip of the iceberg. That's why the majority of Americans don't want this to go through, at least not the way it stands now. There's a way to cover all Americans that doesn't involve rationing, or running small businesses out of business. The problem is there's also a slippery slope to get these things voted on now before there are new elections in congress. That's why the holdouts are really caught between a rock and a hard place on how to vote. They know their constituents don't want this but their boss does.

i do not think this has anything to do with the public option, if anything, it is the current insurance companies that don't want to cover it( i am not saying this is a fact, but i don't really know) and neither does anyone else, it is all speculation

I have to disagree cats, the healthcare companies are very much proponents of preventive care. It is much more cost effective to catch illness early, which is why they not only cover preventive care, but strongly encourage it. In order to purchase healthcare coverage at my company, I HAVE to have a physical and take a health risk assessment just so employess are aware of possible health risks. So to blame the insurance companies of wanting to reduce preventive screening is just not true.

I recently received a letter from my former place of employment that states that my retirement coverage (that covered all family dependents fully) will now charge my spouse and any live in dependants under the age of 21, twenty percent (20%)for all visits and surgeries etc.

WTH!

I'm not sure who is to blame but it reeks that they would wait and decide after retirement (3 years after all papers are signed and agreed upon) to mysteriously alter my benefits!!!

Anyone understand or experience this madness lately?

Companies are struggling to stay ahead of increasing costs of doing business in todays economy. My company just announced that as of July 2009 they are no longer contributing to retirement plans. As a 26 year employee, this was disappointing, but they did increase their matching401-K contributions by another 50% so that will help. Two of my best friends recently retired and they have to pay a portion of their retiree coverage even for themselves, so it sounds like you may have been getting a great deal. I understand that change hurts, and I am worried sick that I have paid into the healthcare system for 26 years thinking I'd have good coverage when I retired, but now that's been turned on its side too. By the time I retire and really need coverage, I'm afraid we'll be at the mercy of an ineficient government program that will be foreced to ration care because costs will spiral out of control because of abuse and the "entitlement" mentality that will run rampant in the U.S.

KC, I totally understand your frustration and fear it is only going to get worse. As Companies will bear more of the brunt of national healthcare, I think we can all expect deterioration of our overall benefit packages.

You know I haven't worked 43 years for the same company as hubby did but this does feel like a slap in the you know where! I'm just regretting our recent move (a little bit). My former colleagues say this only applies to us because we moved out of state. It sounds a little biased to me because everyone else is still covered fully. I feel like we're being penalized for leaving the state.

I totally have no problem contributing to the masses for the greater cause but I'd like to know why I wasn't included in the wheeling and dealing of it all.

I guess, we really didn't see it coming. And you're right Sun Devil98, I'm sure this isn't the last of it. It still stinks to high heaven!
