The first POLYGAMIST sect memeber to face criminal trial was CONVICTED of sexually assulting an underage girl whom he had a so-called "spiritual" marriage with. Jurrors are expected to assess his sentence on Monday, or at least to start deliberating and he faces up to TWENTY YEARS!
He allegedly has NINE WIVES and also faces a later bigamy charge. It's so very sad & DISGUSTING how these old men take advantage of these women and children all in the name of religion. The girl in the assult case was previously married to JESSOP'S brother but was "reassigned" when she was 15 and became pregnant at 16, she is now 21!

What do YA'LL think about this? Are these men CHILD-MOLESTERS & BIGAMISTS or are they being religiously persecuted for their beliefs?

Usually when I open one of these threads it is for discussion purposes and I don't always answer the question posed, but today I will. I think they are CHILD_MOLESTERS through and through and are exploiting the fears and religious beliefs of innocent women & children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anybody thinks that they are being "religiously persecuted", IMHO, I think they are in need of immediate psychiatric assistance.

This guy is sick but in general if 2 men or 2 women have the right to be Married then I personally see nothing wrong with polygamy(as long as wives are over 18 and consent to this lifestyle) imo it is a civil right issue(if you can call it a civil rights issue for the other side then the same rules MUST apply to this!!

While I do see the point you are trying to make we are discussing the men being tried for their sexual relations with underage children. These same underage children who are then having children of their own because the church has blessed this union with a spiritual blessing and that the government is helping to pay for because the woman who are NOT married by STATE LAW(have no marriage license)are collecting WELFARE from the state. Is that right and should they be allowed to manipulate the law? These MEN are just as GUILTY of exploiting underage CHILDREN in the name of RELIGION as the pedophile PRIESTS were. They are using their power in their church as a way to EXPLOIT the weak, defenseless children! and it is DIGUSTING and they should be in jail!

I agree with you(marrying a child and all of that is sick) but lots of people find ways to manipulate the laws to get welfare and many other gov. options, and as for them beng a religion for that as far as Im concerned it's not( I know it is but personaly I don't recognize it! as I feel that is not God's plan)!
