Have your interest rates gone up out of the blue? Are you getting charged late fees, annual fees, non use of credit card fees, etc, recently? Are you finding out that your account that you don't use was closed without notice? Are you getting robo-calls or constant collections calls for demands to pay double your minimum payment? |

the interest rates have gone up on all of our bank cards, and by quite a lot, we got a visa thru a credit union, i have been a member for years, just a small savings, the int rate is low, you need to keep all of your credit cards active, if you don't, your credit score goes down, close an acct and it also goes down, what a system |

Oh yes, I have two credit cards and the one I have with Chase have lowered my available credit and raised the APR. I have never been late paying since I have had this card (for 8 years) and I usually pay early. Of course, they don't give a rat's posterior about that. |

I have two cards and had a third that I did not use because wanted to save it for an emergency - - that was a mistake - - they closed my account for lack of use! |

I know I'm probably the rare person, but I do not own a credit card. My ATM card can be used for credit card as well, but the funds are immediately taken from my checking account. One benefit is I don't spend more than I actually have (which sure isn't much). Instead, I put any discretionary money that I can squeek out each month into a jar and use that for emergencies. |

eppy, you need to be careful about using a debit card in some situations, when we buy something on line, we do not use a debit card, don't want some hacker to get into our checking acct, using a credit card can also assist you in disputing a charge |

If you see a symbol of a lock on the page, it is quite safe, or if it's a company you know well. I use paypal alot which is very safe with security measures. My Debit card is a Visa which has all the benefits of a credit card as far as disputes, statemets and charges. I have online banking and pay all my bills automatically. With that feature, you are notified immediately of unusual charges coming out of your account. I cannot say enough for online banking - as long as the money is there, all bills are paid - no sweat. One time charges are also paid online. I love it!

I have one credit card that I use for ALL online purchases because I'm not very trusting of technology. I use my American Express because it's not associated with my bank accounts whatsoever. I haven't seen any change in fees, but I never carry a balance so I don't pay much attention to the interest rates. |

I don't remember the last time I wrote a check for anything but my rent. It can sometimes be amusing. I can go to grocery store and purchase at 1:00 in the afternoon, and get home by 2:00 and my bank debit card purchase at the store is already online with my bank. I can't remember the last time I carried cash. I do keep $10 in my wallet all time, but have not had to use it. Got mugged about two years ago so swore never to have money on me. |

That's what I like about online banking too. I know all my utilities and other set charges will be paid automatically. Last month I only wrote 2 checks - the carpet shampooer and the guy who mows my lawn. It's great to be able to go to your statement at any time and it is up to date immediately. It's almost like having your own reliable personal accountant. |

It's almost like having your own reliable personal accountant. Actually, the only thing that is taken out of my account automatically is my car insurance, because it is always the same, but as far as electric and cable and phone bill, I still get the paper bills in the mail, but pay them online. And, I always check to see when they are due, just IN CASE the paper bills are late. The other thing I love about online banking is that my social security check is direct deposit and it is ALWAYS on time. Don't have to worry about it getting lost in the mail, etc. What did we do before the internet? |

Quote puddycat: Same with me - I have direct deposit too. The thing about automatic payments, is that all the people I owe on a monthly basis I have authorized to bill my bank, therefore saving me the trouble of paper bills and going to computer to manually pay each month....utilities, insurance, etc. The bank has copies of these bills exactly as you would get them in the mail - you can print them out if you need too. If I get a one time charge, i.e. dr. bill or something like that, then I go to computer to pay manually. Therefore, If I'm gone away for any length of time, I never have to worry about anybody getting paid (or not getting paid).

I can have a very "skinny" bank account at times, so am afraid the payment and my deposit might cross paths! Wish I could win the lotto, but don't even play. |
