Tennis legend Andre Agassi reveals in his forthcoming autobiography "Open" that he used crystal meth during his playing career, Paul Bogaards, a spokesman for the book's publisher, confirmed to the New York Daily News on Tuesday.

According to the Daily News, the eight-time Grand Slam champion admits using the illicit drug in 1997, the year he married Brooke Shields and went into a career slump that didn't end until 1999.

After pulling out of that slump, Agassi went on to win five Grand Slams and became only the fifth player to complete the career Slam. He has been heavily involved in charity work since retirement, opening his own charter school and championing educational reform throughout the country.

sports.yahoo.com/ten/blog/busted_racquet/post/Report-Agassi-says-he-used-crystal... /> He certainly is NOT the only athlete to ever have used drugs and I'm sure he won't be the last. While it is very good for him to come "clean" about his drug use I question the timing? Was it put into the book to sell more books because it is shocking or is he really trying to help kids learn something? I will say that I have always enjoyed him as a tennis player and I applaud his efforts for quitting such a powerful drug and resurrecting his career because the meth sure didn't enhance his career in any way. Is his effort any different than the multitude of athletes that are now or in the past have or are still using preformance enhancing drugs? Athletes have been stripped of their prize monies, awards, medals, and prize monies and some are saying(on the PRO CIRCUIT)that AA should return his prize monies and GRAND SLAM wins because he LIED to the TENNIS FEDERATION when he tested positive for meth. What do ya'll think?

Hey ClicQ--I'm questioning his motives too...why bring the book out right now? I saw him on the cover of People with his wife Stefi Graf a week ago too.

I also heard him on NPR a few days ago, and was like, dang he's got a deep voice on the radio...I was like, 'is this Barry White's third cousin or something?'

He keeps saying how much he hated tennis growing up because his father pushed it on him....but, when he became an adult, couldn't he have told his dad to kick rocks 'imma do what I want to do?'

I know he said he hated TENNIS but what I think is he hated to be PUSHED so hard. He probably found that he loved the money & endorsement deals that came with the TENNIS and especially the fame. Yes, he once was on top of the world, flying high(& I don't mean because of the CRANK either)but he did overcome his drug problems and make an incredible comeback(I had already written him off)and his personal life seems very happy now with STEFFI & their kids so good for him. I think that some can handle the parents being so called stage mothers/fathers and some cannot. Some who have handled the pressure were the WILLIAMS sisters, TIGER WOODS, CHRIS EVERETT, IVAN LENDL(although he did get lots of speeding tickets) to name just a few. Some athletes burn out quickly because they can't handle the pressure especially if they go pro too soon. JMO!

I feel so bad for laughing at this, but you had me rolling when you said "flying high and I don't mean because of the crank!" ROTFLMBO...OMG--really ClicQ, are you sure he wasn't high on the CRANK but his talent, only? Ugghh...it's Friday afternoon, and my brain is mush....I could laugh at anything right now...lol...

I can't imagine how he could see the ball or stand still long enough to hit the dang thing without having a fit and cursing out his racket...LOLOL...

Yep...good ole endorsements and money has soothed the soul of many a wounded child turned star..."Daddy didn't love me, I want a Ferrari and I want to marry Brooke Shields!"
