for those of you against the public option, do you think it is ok for insurance companies to charge such high rates? deny health coverage? deny treatments? drop policy holders if they become too sick? and finally, make such huge profits?

cats, thats a common misconception. All of those things can be fixed without a public option! How will a public option fix those problems? Instead of a radical change in policy why dont we try to fix this with more regualtion on the insurance companies? I believe in K.I.S.S. theory....Keep It Simple, Silly!

i am all for anything that will fix it, why has it gotten so damn out of hand? i think it's because of no competition, we are stuck with these companies and are at their mercy, this needs to change

When I read of the challenges folks in the U.S are having re free Heath Care, I am most grateful for us having O.H.I.P. (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) here in the Tdot. I travel to the U.S often, and every time I’m there; I say to my friendz: I want to move to the U.S, but I would have to bring my Health Plan with me. Seeing bringing Health Care with me wouldn’t be possible, I’ll chill here for now. It sure reads like things have to change.

It's embarassing beyond belief, Africa, that one of the richest nations in the world can't get it together when it comes to quality healthcare for all of its citizens. It's outrageous! I think some of us are waiting for Canada to invade the U.S, then takeover and implement your healthcare system. LOL...would that work?

Osprey – too funny – lol! Canada invade the U.S re Health Care?? Personally I can’t see it. There are times I think Canada plays follow the leader...copy/try to be like the U.S pertaining to certain issues. That said: I believe if Stephen Harper (PM) had his way we would be just like the U.S with no free Health Care! I know they are Canadians in this lounge, and my next statement may upset some, however; I do not – repeat- do not – like Stephen Harper!!! I find the man, and his ideas bordering on Nazism – providing that a word? S.H gets on my last good nerve, and I don’t believe the man gives a damn about us Canadians. I need to stop here, before I go to $$$$OFF re all my thoughts on SH.

You are right...insurance companies have had a long time at the wheel of draining our pockets when it comes to buying, keeping, or trying to shop around for healthcare. I forget who brought up a good point a while ago regarding USPS, UPS, and FedEx...the postal service is likened by many people as the 'carrier option' against UPS, FedEx, etc. The postal service have products such as Express Mail, Priority Mail, etc, that are in direct competition with the other corporate giants Next Day and Priority services.

LOL...I don't see many people DEMANDING for the post office to shut its doors so that we could EXCLUSIVELY use mailing services with UPS, FedEx, etc. The flat rate for USPS Express mail is usually $17 or so within 1-3 business days (domestically). Now...who wants to pay for that same service with UPS and FedEx, of which their prices are double, triple or more?

Free market competition should make sense to capitalists, I don't see what the problem is other than insurance companies' need to be greedy and demand to play God over people's health and finances.

Nor have I seen any seniors or otherwise qualified recipients of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security all DEMAND to stop receiving benefits or disqualify themselves so that insurance companies can deny them coverage due to pre-existing conditions and other factors.

When those lines start forming, that will be a sight to see. Imagine--someone on basic financial assistance, barely making it by with the check they do get, then turn around and FLAT OUT REFUSE that service, and expect an insurance company that deems them as too high risk to take care of them. That's simply...CRAZY thinking...
