Well first of all they are going to have to cut medicare benefits to pay for the public option(this is one of the things they don't want you to know) so I would say if you like your medicare you better pray they don't get the public option--

If they are going provide 30 million uninsured Americans with insurance where do you think the money is going to come from to pay for that cats? Not to mention they are going to give roughly 12 million illegal immigrants the benefits as well- another thing they are saying they won't do --but they will -they are working on a amnesty bill right now to make them all citizens so they can register to vote democrat-- a bill they are going to 'spring on us' after cap and tax and free medical care is in the so called bag- also, the reason I assume you are happy with medicare is b/c you have a supplemental through one of those nasty insurance companies that fills all the holes in the medicare program- AND the public option will ultimately drive the medical insurance business out of business in America which is the whole point to start with--if you have been on medicare for awhile you are probably not aware of the problem it is becoming to new medicare patients to find a doctor who will take on new medicare customers-- b/c the payments from medicare are 20% less than what insurance companies pay for the same procedure for non medicare patients-

And in addition the medicare program is more broke than the ss program so down the road something is gonna have to give..its coming - at some point the whole thing is going to collapse -it has to

Puddy I think the "They" are the people pushing for Universal healthcare.....not just the President, but all the others.

Not so sure what I feel about this anymore..I want people covered, but i have worked all my adult life and paid through my employer or my husbands and it worked for us.

Unemployment is at a HUGE rise and people are no longer covered....maybe a job incentive program will work better...and that Job incentive means the same for employers as well and potential employees....

I really think the bottom line is to get people back to work, People WANT to WORK..they just can't find jobs...

Well that's my opinion ...... for all it's worth anyway

Thank you rei- - appreciate the good input. I have the same concerns as you do, and even though I do still work, at home, while being recently retired, I still am concerned with what cats referred to regarding public auction. Will be looking foward to others responding to this thread - - so I can clearly understand. Thanks again for your input.

Happy to help and the political divide is CrAzY...I really think that everyone wants coverage for all AMERICANS!! But, all Americans must strive toward the same goal...which is to me Self relignment (sp) we must take care of ourselves as well as others. Right now we are having a huge hard time just taking care of our MTG and other bills..we sponsor a child in Somalia and she's the same age as my daughter and a year younger than my son ..so that is a commitment we made... and we will stick with it meanwhile...we won't be having a "friends" b-day party for our daughter/or son ...it all comes down to priorities.

rei1, i also appreciate your input, nice we don't always have to be in combat mode
currently i have not even used medicare, still on hubby's insurance, one of my biggest concerns is how powerful the insurance companies are right now, they can drop you at anytime, deny medicine and procedures anytime, deny you insurance period for any reason, there is no competition, and the money the are spending to fight the public option, speaks volumes in my opinion, competition is a good thing, all other industries have it
i will have to look into what gommie has posted so i can be informed, i will end by saying, i still do not understand why some americans are ok with these insurance companies robbing us blind

i keep meaning to ask this question, and i hope it isn't a stupid one, i am under the impression that the public option will not be guaranteeing free health insurance to all americans, am i wrong?

There is no such thing as free health care-whatever it is we will pay for it-Nothing is free, is that what you are thinking cats-that the health insurance will be free- maybe I am not understanding the question- we will pay for it somewhere- the public option means you will buy from the government and if you don't you will be fined by the government-I read the other day a family of 4 who fail to buy the insurance with pay fines upwards of $3500

i guess what i am saying is, it isn't going to be free, many americans will be purchasing it, i guess i just don't see it being all put on americans that are fortunate enough to be working, i think with competition, our premiums will go down too, i don't want my money going to some fat cat at the insurance provider

No cats it can't go down- there will be no competition-it will be government run,it can't get cheaper the only way it can get cheaper is to have some of the benefits taken away-
