I haven't interviewed in over 11 yrs because I've been at the same job for 11 yrs. I want to know when I start interviewing in December in Los Angeles, should I wear a suit or skirt and blouse?/ Thanks in advance. |

I want to know when I start interviewing in December in Los Angeles, should I wear a suit or skirt and blouse?/ Thanks in advance. That's my field - - paralegal. It's funny, at times the attorneys would have me interview applicants because they felt I would be working with an assistant more than they would. Most of the girls would come in suits - - and I always chuckled to myself because I knew it might be the last time they wore the suit if they were hired. I'd go with the suit - - most people do. Skirt and blouse is fine also. Make sure the skirt is not too short, even if you have gorgeous legs (even though most attorneys like to look at legs Just look the best you can because what is important here is that if is also a receptionist job, you will be greeting people and the attorneys will look at that as who their clients will first see when they come in. Good luck and let us know. |

cali - - you have a lot going for you if you have worked in the same job for 11 years. Did you get your resume done yet? I remember you writing about it. |

puddy, and the job I worked before the one I'm at now, I've worked there for 8 yrs, I'm relocating on Dec. 3rd, resume is done, I actually have two styles of it, don't know which one to go with yet.. one is centered and the other one is left justified, I'm thinking of going with the latter one..I can't seem to find a blue suit, only a black one, I guess the black will have to do and not I have to decide what color blouse now, I know nothing to loud |

Cali, if it where me I would go with which ever I felt the most comfortable in. There will be enough pressure from the interview so you sure don't need to be uncomfy while you are doing it. |

Good luck and let us know. I agree with Puddy on the attire. If you are applying for a professional job, definitely wear a suit (or at least a jacket and slacks/skirt)- you can always remove the jacket when you arrive if its too warm. You menitoned you have a black suit, that will be fine since it will be fall or winter. I also have to suggest wearing close-toed shoes. I hire salespeople and have to say that the first impression is very important, so don't give the interviewer any reason to immediately disqualify you. The job market is flooded with many qualified applicants right now so you want to be as crisp and professional as possible. Do you have a portfolio notebook too? Also, make sure you have pertinent questions to ask - even if you have to hold back in the interview....questions are critical and show that you've done your homework. Good luck to you, it sounds like you are approaching the job search with the right kind of questions and seriousness. |
