The whole point here is that it's a law. and the jumpsuit makes sense because what they are doing is illegal.

Yes, we know it is a law - - and there are many, many LEGAL immigrants.

My whole point was why put out these silly costumes to prove a point? Nope - - it was all for money, but - - too bad - - enough people did not think it was funny (and not all immigrants) as Target has apologized and it has been taken off the market. Period. Guess others are going to have to find another way to teach right and wrong without this stupid costume.

I agree bigtimesoapfan that is the point they are trying to make -but I am not comfortable with this b/c in spite of these people being here illegally- they are still people with a heart inside that can be hurt by this kind if thing- I don't want them here anymore than the next guy- I don't like that they are catered to and I don't like that they get free medical care when our own citizens go without- I don't like that english is becoming second language in our schools, nor do I like that the education of our children is suffering because they are not bi-lingual- I don't like that we are hiring bilinguals in order to serve the non-english speaking masses-- lots of things I don't like- but I don't think humiliating them helps keep them out of the country--

Excellent post Gommie. I'd wear the costume though. Hoping I can find it when I get paid friday or better yet I can go to Savers and Make it myself.

Great post, Gommie - - well thought out. I lived in Miami for 30 years and just came back to North Florida. I loved Miami. I "lived in sin" with a guy for 15 years that was from South America so consider myself pretty much bilingual . BUT it became more and more aggravating when the ads in the paper for jobs started off as "bilingual a plus" and before I left, it was "bilingual a must."

I think it is good for our children to learn a second language, but I know in Miami it was to the point that the Latin children would NOT speak English, even though they knew how, in the classes.

It got hard, and I finally left but not because of the language barrier - - and I still miss being able to talk to Spanish speaking people - - but not because they refused to speak English.

Anway, back on topic - - you are right, this humiliation is not going to keep the illegal immigrants from coming in and it certainly hurt the legal ones who have studied hard and learned English and received their citizenship.

And I can tell you all, that if any children are running around in Miami, in that costume on Halloween, without their parents with them, they might not come home.

i never thought of that but i think that is very true, with all the cute stuff available, why would anyone buy it??

Where was the nationwide outrage last year when that nut hung Palin's costume from his house?

I didn't see anything political in this thread - - or did I miss something? Some just saying they thought the costume was in bad taste, others saying they liked it. Just expressing our opinions - - that simple.

I didn't mean anyone here. I just meant people "out there" based on the couple of articles I read about this.

It's totally distasteful, why do we need to dress our children to "mock" ANYONE?
As another poster pointed out, I bet there were plenty of our ancestors that got to our countries illegally.
I can just bet that all of us have done several things that are illegal, that is not a reason to condone this kind of crud.
That is a stupid way to teach a child right from wrong..here's a thought, how about telling them about the illegal immigrants and giving them the right info? Not have them parade around the streets on a fun night to poke fun at people.
