Quote rei1: wow I just heard that family was on wife swap with a family from Connecticut.....the woman from CT said that the father was always looking for media attention.....some reporter asked him if the was looking for attention and the father said no .....holy crap I hope thats not true....but WOW anyone that goes on that show Wife Swap" has disfunctional problems.

This is a very strange case indeed!

Seems like 15 minutes of fame just wasn't good enough!

How unfortunate to use your kids to seek undivided attention for the family AGAIN! I don't think we have heard the last of this family...do you???

Innocent kids...fame seeking parents ...how original-

What upset me the most, and I DID hear this on CNN, was that after the boy was found missing that the first phone call the parents made was to a television station - - not 911. I don't know how true this is, but if it is - - some are now thinking this was another attention getter.....I personally will be VERY pizzed if it is. I was so upset about this I watched for three hours feeling so bad for the kid - - and then when they showed the interview with the family and the father holding the kid, who was sucking on a popsicle - - smirking like his father was - - I started to smell even more of a rat. Oh well - - if they did this on purpose - - they need to get dragged into court and have to pay back EVERYTHING --- taxpayers paid for all of what it took to search for him, etc. - - and things are bad enough for the taxpayers to have to pay for this - - no matter how minute it might seem now. Really ticked....but, whatever the kid is okay - - and happy as a lark with his little smirk. Sorry!

Puddycat.. That is the thing..
The parents called the Denver news station FIRST.. They have the sky9 helicopter in the sky all the time for the traffic reports..
After they found the balloon the folks at 9 news were the ones to call for back up. They thought it was a joke until they saw the balloon.

I'm thinking the family didn't expect this to blow up like it did..

Well DOHHHH You say there is a young boy up there 8,000 feet and you just want us to *watch* it??
I'm afraid the whole thing was a hoax!

I really hope that this wasn't a hoax....but you just know the family will be hitting the morning circut shows talking about the ordeal.....I think at least another 60 mins of fame....

I hope that I am wrong...that would be truley shamful if it was a haox.....my son was so upset and he only saw a 15 second clip of what was happening..I'm sure others that watched the whole thing unfold were traumatized at the thought of a little boy up there not knowing what could happen...

It's starting to look like this whole thing was staged for publicity...if it was, then the family needs to pay for the rescue effort, it's only fair. If this wasn't a publicity stunt, I think the parents are still at fault for having a homemade balloon sitting around, not tied down properly, and not thinking that young boys will try to get into just about anything. We will see what happens...

I live in Colorado and the local news just reported there was a hang up 911 call from their home last year. He apparently hit her but she didn't press charges. He's a wife beater with a serious anger problem...it's a hoax! Child Protective Services have been called in...he's an idiot and will lose more than he bargained for!

This just makes me sick. What is wrong with these people? I hope they end up reimbursing every single news agency, police force, every everything and every one who spent time and money on this ridiculous farce. They should be so ashamed and disgraced. How vile to involve children in something like this. I'm nauseous just thinking about it.

Sunday night, Oct 18. I've just read that the entire boy in balloon thing was a HOAX. It was all planned; all of the family was in on it. THAT is terrible! The parents should be severely punished for having their children lie, let alone all the money & time & effort & concern that was exhibited when it was thought to be a real event. What is wrong with people these days?

What if those rescue people had been needed for a real accident while they were off chasing an empty balloon? IMO the father is nuts for even thinking about doing such a thing just to be on tv & maybe get a reality show. What an idiot!! Hope he has to pay alot of money & maybe a few months in jail would help him not to do such a dumba-- thing again. Oct 18 at 10:22pm est

OMG - - I just googled this and this is horrible - - these people are really sick. But, involving their child in this is the WORST!!! No wonder the little boy threw up on public television! Horrible.

These parents are dispicable (sp) they are raising their children to be liars....

They owe alot to people that watched in horror and concern not to mention the waste of $$$ it took to search and rescue.

But to me, really the scam that was supposed to boost their reality show had many concerned people praying that the boy is ok..I gotta say that I will still pray that all the children of these parents are safe and taken care of by people that have their best interst in the forefront and to hell with making a buck at the backs of these innocent children.

I still will not forget the look on my young sons face when they found the aircraft and the boy wasn't in there..he was tearing up at the thought...that he fell out and thats what the reporter was talking about showing something that appeared to have fallen out of the craft.

Poor Falcon who was literally sick giving the interviews, I hope that someone will intervene and stop all the maddness. They are soo young and were taught by their parents to lie for the sake of maybe fame....

Gotta ask .... is fame worth it?

That's the question I'd like to ask John and Kate. Was the fame really worth it? And the money? If you could go back to the way you were, would you? I'm not sure they would go back, but if, in the end, they end up getting back together, knowing and having learned from it all, and having a stronger marriage in the end, then I guess it was. I can actually see those two getting back together, especially since John is such a complete train wreck without her. But as far as these balloon people, I think they're clueless.

I wouldn't compare Jon or Kate to these 2 sickos. I heard on the news this am that they planned this for 2 weeks!! They will be charged with a whole slew of things including contibuting to the delinquency(sp?) of a minor and filling a false police report.
