Where the heck were this kid's parents? Officials are trying to rescue a 6-year-old boy who climbed into a balloon-like experimental aircraft built by his parents and floated into the sky over eastern Colorado.

The bottom of the basket is made of thin plywood so a safe landing is probably out of the picture. I hope they are able to get him down safely, that is, if he's still in the craft and hasn't fallen out yet. www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/15/colorado.boy.balloon/index.html

I didn't realize this was on almost every station - - was watching A&E and working. Well, looks like the boy was never in the balloon...I hope this is not a scam. Please God, maybe he never got in it in the first place - - because a sibling said he did. Fingers still crossed.

Quote chychy65: well if he isnt in the balloon, where is he... hope it is a hoax for the child's sake, but someone will be in trouble if it is They think he might be hiding because he is afraid he will be in trouble. They think he may never have been in the balloon - - just set it loose and is now afraid - - I hope that is the case - - COME OUT LITTLE BOY!!!!

I watched this thing all afternoon.. We get the Denver news where I'm at. It's one of our *local* news stations here in Wyoming. Denver 9 news has a sky9 helicopter that does the traffic reports every day and they were called FIRST by the parents to track this balloon. Heads are going to roll on this one! The police *searched* the family home TWICE thinking Falcon might have gotten scared and is hiding out. Well thank God he was! However the search wasn't very thorough of that house! When it comes to young children you have to look in every nook and cranny! I dunno.. The whole thing didn't feel right to me. I'm wondering if since the parents are into storm chasing if they didn't want to see how far this *air craft* would fly. Mean time they had all emergency response crews out, PLUS the National Guard trying to figure out how to get this child down safely.. YuP!! heads will roll!!

Hi Breeze...nice to see you posting here! I think in the grand sceme of things the fact that the boy is safe is the most important. He's 6 yrs old. I think any 6yr old would be scared that he did something wrong. Not to mention he was probably told more than once not to touch the contraption. My son heard the news and was very upsset at the idea that the boy may have fallen out....it was heartbreaking to see my son visibly shaken....he's such a caring little boy. When I heard that he was hiding in the attic...I quickly told my son about it...and my son nodded in agreement that the kid was probalby scared of getting into trouble, but the was very relieved that the little boy was ok....maybe he will have to clean his room everyday..but at least he's ok. Now the investigators.....they have some explaining to do..thats for sure. I suppose we will hear about what happened at the house search soon...maybe the kid moved locations and they did check everywhere...

Hi Rei *hugs* My heart was in my throat the whole afternoon watching it unfold. When it landed Denver 9 news said it would turn off the cameras until they knew the fate of the child. They never did and the rescue team was none to gentle with that balloon! They turned the *basket* upside down after they deflated the thing. The *basket* was made of cardboard. I'm thinking they planned on putting a camera in it to track tornadoes in Colorado. The boys let it get away and the youngest kid *Falcon* got the blame for it. Poor kid.. Once again I'm happy that it turned out to be a happy ending.. But there was a LOT of money spent on this wild goose chase! They had to reroute flights out of D.I.A. and some were delayed.. That thing was close to the air port and in the flight path of the airport..

This is a very strange case indeed! As I was watching this thing unfold and when the thing landed and no child inside, I felt it was a hoax.. The parents of Falcon might be good actors.. I don't know.. Someone is going to have to pay BIG time for the emergency response teams and the National Guard getting involved.
