Quote puddycat: That is great news!!! For the little one who is fighting the bottle - - try putting a little on your pinkie finger and see if kitty will just lick it at first! You have probably already done that!

Named them yet? What do they look like?

One is male and his name is Patches they are both orange tabbys but Patches has patches of smoothe fur and pathes of coarse hair. The female's name is Cutie. I have tried that with my pinky, I went to the store to try to get a dropper for him b/c mine is MIA! We use turke basters on the goats that can't suck. But I went to 3 stores and couldn't find a dropper UNREAL. One if Patches's eyes is still shut.

Oh, that is so cute! Grits, do you have any syringes around the house? If not, you can get one at Walgreen or some drug store. That is what I used, because you can squirt just a little in.

I have a beautiful orange Tabby - - they are so cool.

Well, if one of Patches' eyes is still closed - - that is because you named him Patches! Like a little one-eyed pirate with a patch! Wish you could take pictures while they are still that little.

You are going to keep them, right? Right? Right!!!!

P.S. Do you know if the mother MIGHT still be around? Just a thought!

Haven't seen any cats that we don't know the owners. My mom has the only female of those and she was spayed eons ago. Does any one think that J&J babay shampoo would help them w/ the fleas or would it be too strong?

How to remove fleas on a very young kitten

The safest way to treat a kitten under 6 weeks of age for fleas is to bathe him using warm water and Dawn dishwashing detergent and then to manually pick off remaining fleas. Dawn dishwashing soap is very effective and it kills fleas quickly. Many breeders bathe their cats in Dawn.

Fill your sink or tub with warm water. (Test the temperature as if you were giving a baby a bath). Using the kitchen sink is often easiest as you don't have to bend down and you are more in control. Immerse the kitten up to his neck and insure that he is saturated. Wet his face and head with a face washer. Then lift him out and place him on a towel. Gently massage in the Dawn detergent. Massage the soap all over his body and around his neck, ears, face, head and under his chin, being very careful not to get soap in his eyes. The fleas are not silly and will head for the high dry ground of the head area.

Then put him back in the water for a rinse. If he is not fighting and struggling too much try to keep his body submerged (with his head above the water of course) for a few minutes. If he is clawing you to pieces get the job over and done with as quickly as possible. Having two people perform the operation is often easier. One to hold the kitten and one to massage and wash the the kitten. When finished wrap him up in a dry towel and dry him off. Try to do this in a warm atmosphere and don't let him get cold.

-------------------
After the Bath - Go over the kitten with a flea comb

Flea combs are very inexpensive and usually quite effective in catching fleas that still remain on the kitten after his bath. While the kitten is still damp comb over his body with a flea comb or pick off the remaining live fleas with you finger and thumb nails while they are struggling to get through the damp hair. Have a cup of very hot water ready to drop the fleas into as you catch them. Hot water is best as I've seen fleas jump out of cold water. Another idea is to have some sticky tape placed sticky side up and put the captured fleas on this. Combing may be easier on a shorthair kitten than a longhair one. Put some Vaseline on the base of the comb's teeth to stop the fleas from escaping the comb.

Quote grits1976: Yesterday, my mama found 2 kittens under the bush hog of her tractor. They were so young that their eyes hadn't opened and none of the neighbors had a cat that wasn't either male or spayed so we took the kittens b/c when mom moved the tractor it would have left the kittens exposed to the livestock. We got some milk re placer and are trying to feed them, but one has fleas and Idk what to do for that, with them being sooooooo young. Any suggestions?
Don't feed them MILK. It will give them a very serious bellyache and diarrah. Go to a feed store and get a special blend of milk for them. Give them a good bath and brushing to get rid of fleas. They are too young for any of the commercial flea treatments. Good idea Clicquot had about trying to find a lactating mother cat to adopt them. Little kittens like the feeling and motion of being licked and cleaned by their mom - that encourages bowel and urinitating movements, so get a wet cloth and massage them all over and get them kind of wet in the process. My grown cats all loved this just before time to brush them.

We're giving Milk Replacer that we got from the feed & seed.. I'm trying to stimulate them with a warm wash cloth to urinate and BM. One is fighting the bottle and the other loves it.
That's great news that you are doing many of the right things. Maybe the 'fighter' would benefit if you were to attempt to drop milk in his mouth with a little dropper - he'll soon get the idea.

Hi grits! How are Cutie and Patches today? Are they eating better?

I still cannot believe you couldn't find a dropper in three stores - - but let me know if you tried a little syringe.

Enjoy hearing about them - - brings back old and good memories. All my babies are just about the age where I am going to have to hand feed them because of their ages.

Let us know!

Hey guys,
the kittens are doing well Patches' eye opened today I've been trying to gently wipe it with a warm bath cloth several times a day. Ash is out of school Mon & Tue so she'll help me with it. I've still got them in a roasted peanut box lined with some old recieving blankets.

HEY GRITS!!!! Been waiting to hear from you! So everything is going well!! That's great!

I thought about you today when I was out I ran into a woman who comes around our neighborhood, in certain areas, and has a small colony of cats, from kittens to very old cats.
She traps them, gets them "fixed", etc., and brings them back - - all feral. I did that years ago, but can't do it anymore - - taking care of my very old babies!

I hope you are going to keep them, but if you cannot, I know you will find them good homes. I tell you - - when you raise them from as young as you are you get VERY attached. Don't know if you ever mentioned having any other cats.

Keep up the good work and God Bless You!

Cats Meow will probably pop up here sooner than soon!!! Right, cats?

I have had cats all my life but when my 19 year old cat died last year I decided to wait a while b/c my little boy, is one who would love one to death if you aren't careful. He doesn't care for dogs but loves kitties. So we're not only taking care of them we're training him. We live in a semi-rural area and people tend to drop off cats that aren't wanted so we tend to end uo with strays most of the time they are already weaned or sometimes prego females. this is the first time I've had to care for kittens under six weeks old.

We have one his name is Tiny. Hes an orange tabby(but his mom is a creamcicle siamese. He's 9 weeks old. He had 2 brothers but we gave them to good homes and Tiny we kept.
P.s. If looking for a dropper why not use medicine dropper? (baby tylenol and some others come with them(just rinse it in hot soapy water and rinse well. Or try a pet supply store. Hope everything works out. I love cats. I have 4(+2).
