I have been reluctant to post in this thread, because as a child I was made to feel that it was a dream, and then when I persisted that I was lying to get attention. Looking back I think my mother did believe me, but was too frightened to acknowledge it.
When I was a child we had a spare bedroom that was to be used as a guest room, but we rarely had that many people visiting at one time that we ever really had to use it, except for that one time, which I will get to in a bit.
The house had three had three floors, and my room was on the top floor, at the other end of the hallway, on the left was 5 stairs that led to the spare room. At the top of those stairs was the door to the room. I frequently would hear noises coming from that room, but was always too afraid to go in, especially if it was at night. One summer afternoon, the noises were so loud that I did go in. In the room was a desk, and one of the drawers was rattling, and bumping as if something was inside it. I shouted for my mother, and when she came she thought it might be a rodent or a squirrel, and tried to open the drawer, but it would not open. She thought that it was locked so went downstairs to retrieve the key. When she came back and tried the key the drawer still would not open, she assumed it was stuck, and said she would have my father take care of it when he came home. Just as we were leaving the room the drawer stopped rattling, and my mother went over to it and pulled on it, and it opened. There was nothing inside, and my mother explained it away by saying it was just jammed from not being used. We set up a few mouse traps, but never caught anything. About a week later it happened again, my mother could not get it open, with or without the key, then as we were leaving the room it stopped again. My mother again was able to open the drawer, but nothing was inside. She pulled the drawer out and placed it on the floor. Later that evening we heard a crash, and when we went up the the room a stack of books that had been on the desk were now on the floor. We replaced the books, and the next day same thing, a crash and the book would be on the floor. This happened for three days in a row, and on the third day my mother replaced the drawer, and after that the books never fell off the desk again.
Late the following fall, cousins that we had not seen in years came to visit, and this time there was a need to use that bedroom, unfortunately it was I who was chosen to sleep in it. Sometime during the night I was awoken by what felt like an insistant tapping on my shoulder, it felt so real, in fact it made me wake with a start and a sharp intake of breath. The room was empty, the moon was full that night, and shadows of branches spread across the bed and floor, and they seemed to be shaking with the wind. I lay in the bed shaking, not just because of the feeling of the tapping, but because there never had or was ever any trees on that side of the house! Or in that part neighbors yard that that side of the house faced.
Needless to say I was too frightened to move, and stayed awake most of the night.
