It can be your childhood memory or your kids or whatever you like about the holiday. |

where i grew up(buffalo, ny) we had 2 nights of trick or treating, beggars night and halloween, we actually went into neighborhood bars w/o our parents and usually got money, can you believe that? |

Back in the ol' days when (and where) I grew up, some people still used outhouses if they couldn't get hooked up to the disposal system (rural residences). Of course outhouses were always targets to be tipped over. Usually we got our first snow storm and really bad cold spell, so we couldn't go out without a myriad of coats, gloves, scarves and caps. Kind of ruined a halloween costume! |

I met my husband 10 years ago yesterday at a Halloween party so I guess that is pretty memorable. |

Quote SassyFrass: I love Halloween it is my favorite holiday.(and it is the only time it is okay for normal women to dress like skank-bags How fun! I remember I and a bunch of kids used to go up to the hay loft in the barn, get all settled in the hay and tell ghost stories. We'd scare each other half to death. What made things worse, the floor board used to squeek which was great for effect!
About 6 years ago me, my hubby, and about 10 others stayed the evening in a "haunted house". It was the most horrifying time of my life.......I cannot even look at the house anymore. |

Ah man- mine has to be the year granddaughter sarah came over to go -trick-er-treating with gommie- she about 7 or 8 maybe-- one of the houses on our street was a little wirey lady who lived alone-- sara rang the door bell and the lady came to the door and she looked so cute to me in her costume-little red and black tennis shoes and frilly ankle socks and colorful top with some cute little pants to match and some kind of scarf on her hair- I said oh look at you- how cute- you must be 'Mary Englebright'she gave a grunt and threw the candy at sara and went back into her house- as we walked away sara punched me in the side and said gommie, that was no costume-those were her regular clothes |

I remember as a kid here in the country we walked around to neighbors houses. They were spread out and far between so there was a lot of walking. Anyway they were mostly older couples and widows. They never had candy but gave us apples, cookies and cake that they had made. We had rather have had candy back then but looking back I would not change it at all. |

We were about nine years old when I remember one of my little girlfriend's mother made her a costume that was so out of the norm - it was depicting a cigarette girl like you'd see in the movies selling cigs. in nightclubs. Her dress was very full and short and covered in sparkles, her hair was swept up with some sparkley hairpiece and high heels and fish net stockings. AND her little cigarette tray was full of packs of cigarettes. I remember every one thinking, "what tha...."? |

Quite the little vandal I see. Oh my goodness- LOL..now soaping window is one thing we never thought of- I bet the poor janitor hated halloween-- -- water balloons were a big thing-hiding behind objects and hailing them at cars or people as they walked by- I seem to recall something with eggs too- but can't quite remember what it was-- I don't think we had costumes like kids do today- I think we got the lone ranger masks and maybe wore some of our parents clothes for costumes-- |

LOL ah, you know they make a big deal out of it--haul ya down to the police dept, call you delinquents, and call the parents to come get you--that's about it-those were the good old days-- my brothers used to say the real delinquents were out in force and up to no good while the decoys(me and my friends) were keeping the cops busy-- |
