What is your favorite Halloween Memory?

It can be your childhood memory or your kids or whatever you like about the holiday.

I remember my mom telling me the story of the jack-o-lantern. Apparently in western Kentucky where she lived, there are bogs that emit some kind of a gas. Then, a big, what looks like a ball of fire will take off and begin to roll around. They called them 'Will-o-the-Wisps'.

Back in the ol' days when (and where) I grew up, some people still used outhouses if they couldn't get hooked up to the disposal system (rural residences). Of course outhouses were always targets to be tipped over. Usually we got our first snow storm and really bad cold spell, so we couldn't go out without a myriad of coats, gloves, scarves and caps. Kind of ruined a halloween costume!

I met my husband 10 years ago yesterday at a Halloween party so I guess that is pretty memorable.

Eppy when I was in Elementary school there was an out house sitting in the school yard every year the day after Halloween. The tradition was passed down to the next generation. It was always a group of boys that were old enough to drive that would get it from some poor souls yard. I felt sorry for the folks who woke up walked out and no out house.

I love Halloween it is my favorite holiday.(and it is the only time it is okay for normal women to dress like skank-bags ).

About 6 years ago me, my hubby, and about 10 others stayed the evening in a "haunted house". It was the most horrifying time of my life.......I cannot even look at the house anymore.

How fun! I remember I and a bunch of kids used to go up to the hay loft in the barn, get all settled in the hay and tell ghost stories. We'd scare each other half to death. What made things worse, the floor board used to squeek which was great for effect!

Oh shoot! for sure.

I remember as a kid here in the country we walked around to neighbors houses. They were spread out and far between so there was a lot of walking. Anyway they were mostly older couples and widows. They never had candy but gave us apples, cookies and cake that they had made. We had rather have had candy back then but looking back I would not change it at all.

same here back when I was a kid -we kids - little kids -I'm talking 6 -7 years old- a bunch of us would take off in a pack to go trick-er-treating- we'd walk all over town without any adult supervision-but in those days you could do that--

when we got to be teenagers the big excitement in town was to open up the fire hydrants on the main drag in town-one halloween just as a bunch of us gals had finished the deed and turned around the cops were standing there waiting for us to finish so they could haul us all in..

Quite the little vandal I see. Here soaping peoples windows was the thing that was done especially to schools. It would take the janitor weeks to wash all the soap markings off all the windows. A lot of things where done but no one ever got hurt. Every year we had the same costumes. An old white sheet with eyeholes cut in it but we as happy as could be.

We were about nine years old when I remember one of my little girlfriend's mother made her a costume that was so out of the norm - it was depicting a cigarette girl like you'd see in the movies selling cigs. in nightclubs. Her dress was very full and short and covered in sparkles, her hair was swept up with some sparkley hairpiece and high heels and fish net stockings. AND her little cigarette tray was full of packs of cigarettes. I remember every one thinking, "what tha...."?

Oh my goodness- LOL..now soaping window is one thing we never thought of- I bet the poor janitor hated halloween-- -- water balloons were a big thing-hiding behind objects and hailing them at cars or people as they walked by- I seem to recall something with eggs too- but can't quite remember what it was-- I don't think we had costumes like kids do today- I think we got the lone ranger masks and maybe wore some of our parents clothes for costumes--

ah, you know they make a big deal out of it--haul ya down to the police dept, call you delinquents, and call the parents to come get you--that's about it-those were the good old days-- my brothers used to say the real delinquents were out in force and up to no good while the decoys(me and my friends) were keeping the cops busy--
