Quote Sundevil98: Quote clicquot1: I will repeat again, the NFL owners would have to approve he & his group's buying of the team. Don't think it will happen. Why don't you think the owners won't approve the deal? Has something been reported that says most owners won't approve this? Many reasons the MOST of WHICH is the NFL owners want to make MONEY. This is a BUSINESS and when an owner or especially a "potential" owner has not only insulted the majority of the players but a large group of the people who purchase the tickets and especially the NFL FRANCHISED LICENSED SPORTS EQUIPMENT then really it all comes down to money and money only. I bring up the NFL licensed sports equipment because the ability of a team to "sell" the brand of their team is very important to the bottom line of EVERY NFL team. If the fans base is insulted they may not buy that extra t-shirt/jersey/cap/blanket etc. If a potential owner is seen as "costing" a team money, or market share then they will be ousted/not considered or voted against. One ex-owner RED McCOMBS(Vikings)had already spoken out that that MOST owners probably share his politics but still believe him to be divisive. The NFL doesn't want to mess with it's money machine and especially when new stadiums are often financed by taxpayer monies. Limbaugh's bid ran into opposition from within the "image" conscious NFL on Tuesday when owner JIM IRSAY said he would vote against the radio personality. Commissioner Roger Goodell said the commentator's "divisive" comments would not be tolerated from ANY NFL insider. In 2003, Limbaugh was FORCED to resign as a commentator from ESPN'S SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL when he commented about the EAGLES DONOVAN McNABB "I think what we have here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirious that a black QB do well". I remember watching that game and going WHAT THE... Another example is when the NFL rejected ARIZONA(PHOENIX, I think) bid for a SUPER BOWL on the heals of their refusal to consider MLK's birthday a federal holiday. |

Quote cats meow: it just never ends, read this in media matters today limbaugh is saying obama is directly responsible for him losing his bid to buy the rams, also goes on to say obama and his administration is a danger to all americans on the right what an ego this nut has, obama is going to waste his time getting involved in negotiations to stop a football team purchase, you have got to be kidding me Why is it so hard to believe? He wasted his time going to the Olympic comitee(giving them more time then the general he himself put in charge). He wated his time with his apology tour, and many other things. IMO it sounds plausible. Oh well what would I know, Im one of the others!! |

Quote cats meow: Quote bigtimesoapfan: I must be a nut then cause Ita!! Rush Rules!! do you believe obama stopped the purchase? I think what the media has done to Rush and yes I think the Obama's administration might have played a role. Wouldn't suprise me abit. He might not have out right said don't do it, but his word has influence and many for some reason he says jump and some say how hi. I think thats what this is!imo |

i had no idea obama wielded such influence, i was under the impression he has no clout at all |

Im going to assume thats a joke and leave it @ that |

This is one of the MOST ASININE STATEMENT I have ever heard. The NFL OWNERS did NOT want LIMBAUGH because of the POOR PUBLICITY that would NEGATIVELY affect ticket sales, their bottom line, and sales of sports related items for their teams. It was a decision to do with the BOTTOM LINE not POLITICS. Most NFL owners are conservative but they do care about making money. A large percentage of both the players who work for the NFL and ticket holders were insulted by a potential "owner" who was part of a group of investors. LIMBAUGH was askled by the group after one of the owners came out and said he would NOT approve of their group. The investors wanting to save their deal asked him to leave. |

When did the NFL get a moral compass? When they let Michael Vick back into the leage, and gave so many other athletes slaps on the wrist for breaking the law, they gave up the right to cast stones. If they truly had some sort of moral agenda, then they would set higher standards for those egotistical primadonna thugs that they call football players. It makes me sick to see athletes behaving badly when they know young kids look up to them. I'm not saying all athletes are bad, because so many of them are very charitable and outstanding role models, but the NFL should impose much much stricter rules for behavior. Until that happens, they are no right to cast judgment on Rush. |

sundevil, i agree with you on many of your points, last year a buffalo bills player was driving an SUV about 2AM, drunk, he hit a woman(she was ok) and left the scene of the accident, he hid from the police, lawyered up, wasn't questioned until 3 days later, he got charged with some minor thing, it was all over the local radio, smarter to leave the scene of the accident, then stay, try to get help, cause then you will be charged with DWI, i think that is crazy, and for me personally, i would never go to a game if michael vick were playing, of course that is just me |

I don't know that I buy the idea that Obama stopped Rush from buying the Rams....there is simply no political motivation there. I could more likely see Obama try to shut down his radio program because its a thorn in Obama's side, but buying the Rams is pretty insignificant in the scheme of things. Oh yea, and the fact that the Rams stink makes it even MORE insignificant!! I still stand by my premise claim that athletes should be held to a certain standard, or else get kicked out of the league. |

Joseph Ashby at the AmericanThinker.com reported on the media’s character-lynching of Rush -Of the stories on ESPN.com regarding rush's bid for the Rams, none of them mention that NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith served as counsel to Attorney General Eric Holder and was a member of obama’s transition team-a story reporting these facts was published during the summer but has been neglected since all the controversy with Rush began-- |
