Good Evening, |

we have lost a few cats to kidney disease, usually occurs in older cats but we did have a couple that were only 7, i have to say, i am not convinced this guy is on the level, so many things are sold today just to make a buck, and all those bonus books make it sound fishy, guess $37 plus shipping, which i am sure you will have to pay on all three books, wonder what the final bill will be |

This might be a little off topic but it does relate to animals, especially LOVERS of dogs, cats, and birds. This summer Y&R had a storyline where a villian killed not only a beloved pet dog(ZAPATTO), a bird(threw it against the window), but her own kitty and then carried the stuffed remains around talking to it. I'm really suprised PETA didn't stage a protest. I complained to wwww.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.php then fill out info,COMPLAINT,scroll down to Y&R and give your complaint. |

I am a long time feline owner & lover. I choose not to read this article as I feel that there are many "crackpots" out there that just want to make a buck. |

i agree with you bailey, we get so desperate to help our animals sometimes we will try anything to cure them, that is exactly why these people hawk their products, they do it for weight loss, back pain, cancer, you name it, animal lovers are a bunch of new customers to target |

I remember when my Duke had kidney failure I made the big mistake of getting on the internet for info. There was so much misinformation I was going in circles. Our vet sent us to a small animal hospital in NY State. They took blood & sent it to Cornel. It was so very expensive... but for the proper info it was so worth it. They told us that he could go thru dialasis (sorry spelling is wrong). He was 18 years old & there was no way I would put him thru that. We had him put to sleep. The internet is good in some ways but there are predators in many ways there.... I hope people go carefully with this!! |

Hi GG. I'm sorry to hear about your beloved pet. Last December i had to put down my 17 year old cat Prince. He had kidney decease and became emaciated. He was always a huge cat and dwindled down to 5lbs. We tried almost everything including giving him liquids by using a needle attached to a bag and injecting so many cc's. I'm not sure if kidney decease is reversable but i'm not convinced if it is. My only regret is that i did give him the shots. It made him miserable and was so horrible to do. I wish i had put him down sooner so not to torture him longer. Its the hardest thing in the world to make the decision "when". |

sunny, i remember that vividly, we did the same thing with our snowball, the vet sold us a bill of goods, we kept giving him the iv's and prolonged his suffering, it was a money maker for the vet, now we have a new vet and we have put out cat down before they suffer, i posted this is a thread a long time ago, but, it is worth repeating...i asked our vet why are we losing all of our babies to kidney disease? he replied, they are so well taken care of, they live long and happy lives and their kidneys just shut down, because they get old |

Sunny,If it wasnt for my friends here in the lounge during this aweful time, it would have been even harder. Keep posting in your thread. Sunny Thanks for sharing that with me. I didn't know you at the time but I'm sure it was very hard. It just made hearing that news a bit hard. So when i saw this article I thought there may be some hope that I can prlong my baby's life. I mean this article is pretty powerful. I'm aware of the fact that there are predetors trying to lautch on to consumers to sell their product, but it just seemed so believable. I figured if it's natural it can't harm him, and could even help. Especially since just 5 months ago my baby was perfect. Sunny may I ask when you decided not to give your little Prince his shots, and what made you come to that conclusion? one of my friends believes that shots weaken an animal's immune system? |

Did you agree with anything? Some of the article was so disturbing, and for me just semmed to be based on fact, that he did back it up with some of the newspaper articles. I know kidney disease is so hard, to see what the animal goes through. Thank you for the support ladies it's been a bit hard.
hopefully some other animal lovers will chime in |

To answer your question i decided to stop because he became so ematicated (sp), weak, and he had a stare in his eyes that looked so sad....he sat next to the water bowl and licked the water constantly and then ran to his litter box and stayed in there for a long time. It was the saddest thing ever and i knew when i gave him the shots it was very uncomfortable. I did them for over a month and he didnt gain weight or improve at all. I took the advice of my friends here (catsmeow, gommie) who had these exact experiences and realized by talking to them that it was a lost cause. |

Quote Sunnydaz: Thanks for taking the time to anwser that. I hope it wasn't painful I asked, i was just curious because I could possibly be going through that in the early stages. I like the name you had for your little guy prince so cute! Do you get a chance to read that article, and if you did what opinion do you have on it?

altho it is painful to remember, we are all glad you asked, all of us are here to help each other when are animals are sick, it doesn't sound like your kitty is that bad, i would follow the advice of your vet, special food and meds may help, you will know when it is time, don't let your baby suffer because you can't bear to live w/o him/her, the last loving thing you NEED to do is say goodbye when you know it's time |

I will continue to take my vet's advice, and I did order the book, I will let all of you know what I discover and how if any it could help my kitty. What I have to try and do is life in the moment and enjoy my cat while he's here and healthy. Sometimes it's easy to let your mind wonder and think the worse. But thank you again it's nice to hear those kind words, and comfort. I appreciate all the support I have from everyone on this board.
i agree, i don't think the suggestions in the book would hurt your cat, that is just my opinion, if you want to incorporate that with your vet's advice, i don't see a problem, i would probably ask if there could be any reaction to doing both, in any case, we all know you have so much to think about, make sure you stay in touch with us hugs, from all the animal lovers on soaps.com |
