the right is constantly trying to invent absurd accusations to distract from the important issues, but if the left points that out and says we have more imp't things to be worried about, the right has no comment
whether or not you like the president, no american should be happy the olympics will not be held here, bush wanted them held here, as a matter of fact he said chicago would not be the host, america would
how can the hatred for obama be more important than getting americans working? don't you think there would be a whole lot of jobs generated because of it, they left is conatantly saying how many people are not working, well this event would have provide a ton of jobs,
while i don't agree with anything you posted, i appreciate you giving me your side w/o being condescending

Quote cats meow: i have a question for all the conservatives that post here

why would these americans be clapping and cheering that chicago will not be hosting the olympics?
i am very interested in knowing what the reasons are to be happy chicago lost it's bid

I want' going to get into this debate because I dont care about the olympics. So, as a conservative, I feel like once again I've been lumped into a stereotype. It concerns me that so many people paint a broad brush when it comes to democrats and republicans (and yes, it happens on both sides). So first I want to say that I did not "clap" when we lost....it was another embarassment to our country. However, the reason its such a blow to our country is because our President made it political. He had no business going over there. From what I understand, Michelle was doing an outstandig on her own. When our country is in such chaos and we continue to lose jobs, have a struggling economy, and are fending off terror attacks on our soil as well as abroad, the Olympics is the last thing he should be invovled with. And to proactively respond to those who say the Olympics brings jobs to Chicago....they are temporary. We need businesses to return to the U.S. that will creat permanent jobs.

So, in summary, I don't think its fair to say all consertaives are cheering our loss. Many of us are disappointed that our loss is now a worldwide blow becuase we DID involve our President...and we were the first to be eliminated.

well i have to say, you are absolutely right, i should not have lumped all conservatives together, i apologize, it was a dumb thing to do, and i am very happy you did not clap
i thought it was good PR for us so that is where we differ,
and while i agree the jobs will be temporary, we need jobs no matter what, i also appreciate you responding to me

one more thing, chicago is about 10 hrs from where we live, if we were both healthy, we would try to attend, of course that is along way off, but one can dream, i really hate planes

Thanks cats. BTW, you are not dumb -as I mentioned, some conservatives do it too. I know the there are likely some democrats that didn't want the Olympics in Chicago either. I was reading an article today that the Chicago Tribune/WGN poll claims public support of Chicago residents sharply declined from 61% in February to only 47%. The city of Chicago is running at a nearly $500 million deficit prjection for 2010 and residents are concerned that the cost to prepare the city for the games could outpace the income. From a financial perspective, hosting the Olympics isn't always a guaranteed windfall for the host city.

thank you sun, guess there are pros and cons to everything, what bothered me the most was the cheering and clapping, to be so ecstatic that we lost, it sure looked bad in my opinion, i bet the terrorist countries are loving this, made me so sad, at times like this i am glad my folks are gone

So, to all the critics happy about us losing the 2016 games, turn in your flag lapel pins and stop boasting of being so patriotic. When an American city loses, like New York did in the the last go-round, we all lose. And all you critics are on the same level as the America haters all across the world.

You should be shouted down for not backing your own country. The next time any of you bang out a press release about "Buy American" or "Support our troops," remember this moment when your cynical, callous and small-minded brains happily rejoiced when America lost the 2016 Olympic Games.

I read a lot of articles on this, and the rest of the world never even thought we stood a chance at winning the bid. Apparently, the Olympic committee likes to be courted, wined and dined, in order to choose their site. Rio has already been doing this for at least 3 years - we really had just started. And while I also read Michells was doing a great job at this, she just came in too late.

I think that was why a lot of conservatives were against BO even spending personal time on this, they all knew/felt it was a lost cause and he had other non-loss causes to do. And the fact it has never been in SA didn't hurt, either.

As for celebrating the bid loss - I have no idea. All I knew was Chicago is known for its political corruption and violence, but I still never rooted against the bid. It still makes no sense to celebrate it, tho. At least not to me, so I can't explain it away. I never thought it would have been fiscally beneficial, tho. Like someone else said, they are so in debt, how could they even pay to get the city ready? It would have been a great temporary economic boost, tho. Maybe would have cleaned up the city.

after reading your posts, i have changed my mind about who was cheering, the nut jobs in the republician party, the ones that are always over the top looking for anything to say against obama, limbaugh and all of his buddies, i now believe the thinking main stream conseravives would not be a part of that, no real american would be cheering for any city losing the bid

For me, it's really hard to tell who are the "thinking conservatives" because the GOP has allowed the nut fairies to fight for them. You lie down with fleas, don't complain about the itch later when they've multiplied past the point of no return. Take a lesson from the 1969 Altamont incident at the Rolling Stones concert: don't have the crazies (Hell's Angels) be your security blanket, and don't cry when they act out and start stabbing people.

Unfortunately to many Americans and the world as a whole, especially since the elections last year and the healthcare lunacy this year, conservative is synonymous with crazy. When you have Lindsay Graham on Fox a few days ago say that Glenn Beck and his ilk don't represent the Repub party...but you see just a week ago or more that nearly all of the Repub leadership visit Fox News more often than some go to bathroom, then how easy is it for plain Joe American to separate those who are cheering the lost Chicago bid as a "Obama loss" rather than an American loss.

The nutjobs are entitling themselves as conservative and Republican and "trying to get the country back the way it was" nonsense...their cheerleaders are Beck, Limbaugh, etc, you cheer about the economic boost that was lost because they don't want to see anything positive associated with Pres. Obama. It's so ludicrous, sick and twisted...that if you don't take a step back, you might pass out from the stench.

Okay here goes nothin!!
I don't think the pres should be concerning himself with the 2016 anywhere Usa Olympic bid, Chicago has enough problems with it's mass transit and schools. The reconstruction of soldier field was followed by Millenium park, which is to be followed by the 2016 olympics? How the city would pay for it is anyone's guess. It can hardly tap the hotel/motel laundry tax again. That went for the soldier field. Daley has promised not to raise property taxes, about $100 million went to Millenium park. The mayor says he has a list of interested investors willing to foot the bill for the Olympic village, who are they? and will their be any small bussiness left by 2016? Their moving out with all the tax increases. Has any city ever turned a profit on hosting the olympics? The burden(imo) would be passed to the tax payer as usual.
Has their ever been another president who has flown 2 jumbo jets @ great sacrifice to him and his wife according to Michelle to put in a bid for the olympics(aka financial disaster). with the serious circumstances facing our country right now and the problems in Afghanistan, the Pres needs to get his priorities in order!!
I don't think the 2016 olympics(Aka financial disaster) should be topping his things to do list! How many American soldiers did we lose over their today alone ? 6 or 8(as of right now)? Mr. President needs to stop procrastinating and do his JOB!!!! He needs to be making (informed) decisions about Afghanistan instead of flying to Coppenhagen to deliver his pitch to the olympic comitee when they really had no shot @ it to begin with!! Feels to me like he's playing the avoidance game cause he has NO idea what to do(see this is the time we need someone with more than(a year in the senate). Right now most of us can't look ahead to 2016 , we are to busy fighting to preserve our country(and our jobs) in 2009!
But you can play the blame game and you can blame those of us who do love our country and you can give obama a pass until the cows come home! The point is O had no bussiness going over to Coppenhagen to put in his bid for the 2016 olympics until the corruption in Chicago(and our government) is cleaned up!! We dont need no stinkin Olympics!!!

You know...what I look forward to are the hypocrites at their political rally waving "Country First" signs, putting the US flag all over their bodies, and screaming BUY AMERICAN!

Such a shameless and gutless thing for so called "Americans" to behave this way...I just feel for those unemployed people who could have at least gotten a few weeks to a month or so paychecks to feed their families...
