Do you mean that honor student slaying? Gosh, that is so awful...ugh, I saw the victim's mother just crying and steeling herself to speak to a reporter who wanted to check in with her and the family...

Well you know, Rio isn't exactly 'Sesame Street' either, not by a loooongg shot---the crime in most parts are so bad, that the racing league F1 cancelled it's race there because of the robberies, shootings, etc. Which makes me wonder how this is all going to pan out on a larger sporting scale like the Olympics?

Not all of Brazil is bad, but it is notorious for its crime...

I can't think of the name but isn't that where The American boy is(his mom went there with him(her family was there) when he was little and the dad has been in a legal battle to get him back. Especially after the mom died giving birth to a baby girl by her new hubby? he's trying to kee the boy their and brain wash him some more? It's been on the news off/on for awhile) I think that is where they are and if so I think we should boycott!

Hey Chy--I'm booking First class tickets to Rio, wanna come?

"The party was expected to go well into the night, and officials said the crowd would easily surpass 100,000 people. The Cariocas danced to samba as confetti was launched into the air in front of a massive stage set up for the victory celebration."

President Obama expressed his great pride in pleading our country's bid for the Olympics!

Kinda sad for all of the out of work residents in the Illinois, Michigan, and surrounding areas that would have received a great economic boost. I would imagine alot of former auto/steel/factory workers would have profited from the construction, concession, hotel staff, parking attendants, retail, and other jobs needed to get the Olympics up and running.

It makes me sad. It would have brought in millions of dollars and created thousands of jobs for several years to come. I know when Atlanta got them work started right away. But I am happy for the winner too. It will be a big boost to their economy. Grab me a ticket too.

Kudos to Rio...I heard they put an outstanding presentation together. I didn't know this was their first win, so good for them, I wish them the best. They should be proud.

Because Beck and those that are like this nutjob get their rocks off by celebrating anything that they see as a Democratic defeat. The Chicago bid by our President was an appeal for our COUNTRY. But you see...since Beck and his ilk are mentally unstable and crazy, they saw the situation in their own warped world as a political defeat...they are a waste of time and space, and their 'celebration' should actually be seen as a slap in the face of anyone in the Illinois, Michigan, and surrounding areas who are out of work and could have used the work. How pro-American is that type of behavior?

i actually could not think of one reason to celebrate the loss, what you say makes perfect sense, these guys are so wealthy they do not give a damn about middle america, actions speak volumes, words mean nothing

Im sorry but this country and it's president need to worry about our country and it's people, and the nut jobs around the world not the olympics!! That's what most of us get upset about! He spent more time talking to the olympic comitee than he did to the milatary leader informing him on what to do in Afghanistan!! Really shows you where his priorities are!! He wanted the olymics great then he should have sent a delegation! No other pres has done this! He has more important things to do than this!! And by the way when you make a speech to try and win your country a victory you don't down it @ the same time!! He never seems to miss an oportunity when abroad to remind peope of the "Mistakes" we have supposedly made in the recent years!! Most of us had no problem with him wanting the olympics here, It was the way he went about it that we have a problem with (imo) Oh and if I "ranted" sorry!!

I want' going to get into this debate because I dont care about the olympics. So, as a conservative, I feel like once again I've been lumped into a stereotype. It concerns me that so many people paint a broad brush when it comes to democrats and republicans (and yes, it happens on both sides). So first I want to say that I did not "clap" when we lost....it was another embarassment to our country. However, the reason its such a blow to our country is because our President made it political. He had no business going over there. From what I understand, Michelle was doing an outstandig on her own. When our country is in such chaos and we continue to lose jobs, have a struggling economy, and are fending off terror attacks on our soil as well as abroad, the Olympics is the last thing he should be invovled with. And to proactively respond to those who say the Olympics brings jobs to Chicago....they are temporary. We need businesses to return to the U.S. that will creat permanent jobs.

So, in summary, I don't think its fair to say all consertaives are cheering our loss. Many of us are disappointed that our loss is now a worldwide blow becuase we DID involve our President...and we were the first to be eliminated.
