Standard flu shots begin here in my town on Friday. I work with the public and so I always get one. I will be in line to get the standard flu shot. |

I am on the fence with the H1N1 vaccine however. I have googled it, and saw polls taken where People are saying they won't take it or have their children take it. The reason is because it hasn't been tested enough. Is there anyone in the medical field (that chat on these boards) that can alleviate or confirm the fears of this vaccine? I know that you won't know the facts. But maybe you have heard of any side effects or even if this vaccine will prevent the H1N1 virus. What is everyone's thoughts on this? Will you or won't you? I personally do not want to take the Swine Flu shot but because I am a nurse I bet they make us take it. They already make us take the regular flu shot. One of the girls that I work with had a note from her Physician not to take the regular flu shot and they made her take it anyway and she was sick as a dog for 3-4 days. She did leave a nasty-gram on the Employee Health Nurse's phone. |

Have you heard anything that the general public hasn't heard about this vaccine? |

I just got my flu shot on Friday, but I'm also on the fence with the H1N1. I travel a lot for work and am on airplanes and transit systems frequently, so I am concrned about getting the swine flu. However, I have also read reports that the amount of testing is insufficient, and the safety of the vaccine is in question. I will hold out for now.... |

This site has some good information on the different H1N1 vaccines. Be sure to read the contraindications, warnings, precautions and drug interactions before you get the injection. //preventdisease.com/news/09/092109_H1N1_package_inserts_warnings.shtml H1N1 Vaccine Packages’ Inserts Ingredients and Warnings The following are the ingredient lists, warnings and side effects for vaccines currently scheduled to be administered to populations worldwide for the H1N1 swine flu. Not one scientific study has ever established the long-term safety of adjuvants and none have ever been approved for use in vaccines for humans. |

I am in the last age group eligible for the vaccine (ages 65 and over), so I don't know. I trust my doctor, so I will do as he says. I always get a regular flu shot with no side effects and haven't had any type of flu for years. I survived the last strain of the H1N1-type flu, the "Asian flu" that killed so many in the 1950's, although I was in bed for about 3 months; and my mother survived the 1918 Spanish influenza epidemic when she was 6 years old, which supposedly is related to the swine flu. When swine flu showed up in the mid-1970's, the doctors said we probably were immune and didn't need the vaccine, so we didn't take it. They were right. My Dad did take the shot and developed lumps around the injection site and his arm swelled. No other ill effects, and they cleared up. In my area, most cases have been age 30 and under, the majority of them school children. |

I have to get it for work as I work in a group home. Not sure about it yet. But if it's as bad as they think it's gonna be I guess it's okay. I actually worry more about my kids getting the shot then me. |

Quote StL Cardinal Fan: I think that there may not be an option on not to take it if you work in health care. i work in a hospital as well, in food services, so I will probably have to get one. I don't really want to because I think there is a lot of propiganda about it. I always choose to try to let things run their course or try something natural or holistic. I had to take the flu shot last year, but didn't want to. Sometimes I don't think it makes a huge difference anyway. Even if I'm obligated to get the shot, i don't think that I will allow my kids to get it because there hasn't been that much testing, and just don't feel comfortable about it.

I also work in a hospital...on a patient unit, I think I will be required to have the shot, but reading all the post's here ....I'm kinda nervous I heard that people that died from H1N1 all had pre-existing conditions..otherwise healthy people will feel like shiot for a while. but none have died |

I won't because I'm not at high risk but my son will. He and I both get the regular flu vaccine and have no bad reactions. He is slightly asthmatic and has to get it and I get it with him as a show of support for him. I was debating until I saw on TV the family of the girl who recently died from swine flu. She was l4 and healthy. It was so sad. Our school is having a flu clinic. But in the paper they sent home they say they are giving two shots for swine flu. I'm only letting him get one. From what I've read, they recommend one for kids over ten and two for kids under. |

I probably will because I am a risk patient when I get the flu. Went for my flu shot last week, but the doctor refused to give it to me that day because I was running a fever. It seems I was already in the beginning stages of the flu (not swine) so they gave me Tamiflu. That is supposed to prevent the flu from being so severe and shortens the duration. It also will help ward off the Swine flu for a few weeks - so will get the swine shot later. I asked the Doctor if the swine flu shots were live viruses and he said "no, only the nasal spray contains a live virus" - so, that made me feel better about the shot. |
