I just read an article on AOL. Has anyone heard about this?

In what's become a growing problem, some waterways in the upper Midwest suffer from malodorous, blue-green algae blooms that have already sickened some people -- and killed dozens of dogs.

Again, I just saw this article on the AOL website (it has pictures too) It shows lots of algae growing on Lake Pokegama near Chetek, Wis., earlier this month. It's a must see!

I've recently been afraid of swimming in the ocean but this article now has me afraid to swim in the rivers too.

It sounds horrible. The article I read said State officials are actually telling people who live on algae-covered lakes to close their windows, stop taking walks along the shore and not to let their dogs drink from the lakes. The article says the smell is awful.

Did the article say what's causing the algae? That sounds awful.

I'm sorry to hear about the "little darling". Is she still Okay? I certainly hope so! I wish nothing but the best for us all!
Earth is a scary place these days. Anyone find that UTOPIA we've all dreamed about yet?

It said that blue green algae is common in waters and not every lake will develop a problem. It also said "man-induced" nutrients like phosphorous are the cause of the problem. Fertilizer and septic system runoff, even ashes from burning leaves contribute to the problem.

Another manmade problem. Stop burning leaves and bag them for recycling into mulch. Try installing sewer systems or applying safer treatments to septic systems. STOP dumping chemicals....better yet..STOP using them.
