A lot of people are against the idea of a national health care plan.
Have you ever personally experienced a NHS health service abroad?
Do you have a ''real'' idea of what you are objecting to or supporting?

i have not, have you? if you have i hope you will share so we all can learn something
i am in favor of cnational health care, i want health care to be available to all americans, many americans are just a day away from losing health insurance they currently have
lose a job, get to sick and be dropped, not be eligible at all, i am willing to pay a little more to help out
i hate the huge amounts of profits insurance compannies are currently making, in my opinion, if you are against national health care, you are for insurance company's continuing chokehold on americans

I agree Cat's. I feel that everyone should have a right to receive medical attention no matter what their income is. Insurance companies are practically running this country. There is health insurance, home insurance, malpractice insurance, liablility insurance, car insurance and on and on and on. They have us all where they want us. If you don't buy car insurance you can't drive. If you don't buy house insurance you can't finance your home. If you don't by liability insurance you can't run a business. They can charge you whatever they want because you have no choice in the matter. You have to have it to survive. I am tired of watching sick people die without insurance and those who are lucky enough to afford it are getting plastic surgery with it. Competion would bring those rates down. It is just like gas is. If you have two gas stations side by side the less expensive would sell more gas. If you had 2 or more insurance companies with same coverage the least expensive would get more customers. That in turn would make the more expensive drop their rates in order to compete. That would put more money in the pockets of the businesses who are dropping coverage because it is so expensive and in the pockets of those who pay for their own. Same coverage as a lower price sounds like a win win situation for all.

Another bright young life snuffed out because of our crappy health care system. And, if history's any indication, no one in Congress will care until it happens to one of their own family:

OXFORD — Friends say the Miami University graduate who died this week after reportedly suffering from swine flu delayed getting medical treatment because she did not have health insurance.

News of Kimberly Young’s death Wednesday, Sept. 23, came as a shock to those who knew the vibrant 22-year-old who was working at least two jobs in Oxford after graduating with a double major in December 2008.

Young became ill about two weeks ago, but didn’t seek care initially because she didn’t have health insurance and was worried about the cost, according to Brent Mowery, her friend and former roommate.

Mowery said Young eventually went to an urgent care facility in Hamilton where she was given pain medication and then sent home.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Young’s condition suddenly worsened and her roommate drove her to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, where she was flown in critical condition to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

“That’s the most tragic part about it. If she had insurance, she would have gone to the doctor,” Mowery said.

Family members indicated that Young died from complications from the H1N1 virus, but the Ohio Department of Health, the Hamilton County Health District and the Butler County Health Department were unable to confirm she had been infected with the virus.

Bret Atkins, of ODH, said late Thursday afternoon that his department had not received a specimen yet to test for the H1N1 virus. If it is confirmed, Young would be the fourth Ohioan to die from the virus and the second from Butler County.

Young, known as “Kimi” to her friends and family, graduated from Elmwood High School in Wayne, Ohio, and earned a bachelor of arts in international studies and a bachelor of fine arts, while minoring in French and Spanish.

Yes, cats meow I have.
(I was in London, but, the NHS system covers the whole of Britan.)
I hope you will find this example usful; If you required a simple surgery you would join a list. While on that list you would be under the care of your personal Doctor ect. Should you illness become worse/pain greater you would be moved up the list.
At any point you could pay to have private health care. You needn't have to use the NHS.
There are no such thing as "Death panels" either! That would actually go against the hippocratic oath. Plus, the notion of letting people die because they don't fit the "standard" is disgusting.
The old are not left to die in a corner. Babies with Downs Syndrome are treated.
Is the NHS perfect? No. Though, it is still an amazing system with (mostly) wonderful caregivers.

Our system in Au is similiar and I have commented before on how it works for us we also have our precriptions subsidised by the government via the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
It seems strange to me that America is the only developed country on the face of the planet that does not have universal health coverage.(refer W.H.O. website or even wikipedia)If it works for everyone else it surely can't be that hard for some american's to accept that everyone in their country deserves basic medical care.JMO

In Australia, even if you are as poor as church mice and do happen to contract some dreaded disease, you will get treatment. Medications are no where near as expensive here as in the US. It is not a perfect system, but you know that you will always be able to go to the Dr. if needed.
