Quote Memory24: Well I know for me when I was in school during that time we did not have to watch President Reagan's funeral. I didn't even know there was a song. I went to school in California too. I think it depended on the teachers or schools if the funeral was shown. I know that sometimes my teacher would videotape historical events and show it to us the next day. But nothing too serious. But I do remember in elementary school we had to know the president which was Bill Clinton at the time. We wrote him a letter and that was about it. If there was any one historical figure we focused on a lot it was probably Martin Luther King Jr. not the president at the time. When Bush was in office most of my teachers had a not so good view of him. Again it came back to the teachers if they wanted to talk about Politics we listened. One of my teachers even showed us a White House correspondents' Dinner with Stephen Colbert. I know that some people feel that they do not want the teachers or schools talking about the president to the young children. Because they are very impressionable but for me and my experience it was less about what teachers' political views. More about my parents and what their views were. More than likely when I was younger I would adopt my parents views instead of a teacher or another authority figure. I don't see anything wrong with the song. It's really sad what is going on right now. Why can't everyone work together because both sides want a better country? I hear that people want this and that and our country is going down the tubes. But all of the drama/outbursts are not helping the situation to get things done. It is just creating more division and dissension and again that is not good. You must be very young- or time is slipping by me even faster than I realized- seems like just yesterday we were lined up watching the procession on its way to the Reagen Library-- |

Thing is we both know how to seperate politics from personal. My husband is a whole lot like you. Needless to say we do not discuss politics UNLESS I have a zinger to throw at him that I just can't resist. You are definitely right Wanna. I know for me when I entered Junior High. I was in for a shock I was surprised by some of the students behavior. I was eleven at the time and there were kids in my school who did drugs, drank alcohol, and involved in sexual activities. It wasn't just a few it was a high number. These kids thought it was so cool to act like they were adults and they were like thirteen. It was really shocking I could not believe it. I thought this kinda stuff only happened in the movies. If you looked at my junior high you would never think some of the stuff that happened went on there but it did. It is really scary looking back and thinking about all the stuff those kids were doing. It was a lot of peer pressure to. I remember in PE they would have us take anonymous surveys that asked students if they were doing any of those things. |

I feel so sorry for our kids today- they have no clue what they are missing-my first experience with drugs in school was when my kids were in Jr.High(7th and 8th) turns out one of he janitors was selling pot to the kids-after that drugs seemed to escalate -they were rampant in our schools- and I can only imagine about the sex- that was back in the late 70's...... |

Yes I was in middle school. It has really escalated especially with the technological advances. The sad thing is that the kids would just disappear during the years. You would really never know what happened to them. By the time I entered High School things were even worse. |

People just came to show their respect for their former President. |
