Quote KC11: Personally, I think movies lend a hand into the stereotypes around the world about certain cities and states.

One of my favorite movies is October Sky. It's a movie that takes place in a mining town. Since I haven't been to Kentucky or West Virginia or any other mining states at all. I can see why some would form a general opinion about miners and mining towns.

You're right, people shouldn't generalize. It's great to know that my initial speculations are wrong.

You think that is bad, the movie "Deliverance" was filmed about 10 miles from my house. It was across the line in GA. But that was some beautiful scenary don't you think?

I never saw the movie but I sure like the music!!!

The movie has a pretty disgusting scene so beware. It is also stereotying people from the area. It was not that good a movie and Burt was a jerk. The river rafting and scenery that I knew was the main reason I watched it. But only one time was enough.

Yep--that movie is too dang long to watch over again...you know it got 4 stars...for what, the trees and river...surely it couldn't be for "squeeeekkk squeeeeek squeeeekkk...you got a purty mouth!"

LMAO!!! One time Jon Voight said that doing that movie caused him to be turned down for a lot of other movies. I guess he got stereotyped. I don't think that Angelina was even born back then.

LOL...oh well...the movie and other things sure haven't changed my view to not have any interest in personally visiting (though I've had business meetings there) or living in that state. I don't see why anyone should apologize for not wanting to live in a place that has people that backwoods-a@@ backwards who would hang a man for doing a census poll...I know every state in this country isn't exactly utopia, but damn...

I haven't seen anyone asking for an apology for not wanting to live here. You can't judge an entire state because some dumb a@@ thing a select few done. It is a very sad thing that happened but to call the people who live here backwoods a@@ backwards is uncalled for. There are horrible murders in every state but you don't judge everyone in that state because of it. Remarks like yours are what gives our state a bad name...But I guess I wouldn't know because I am a backwoods dumba@@....

Wow, I just don't know what to say, I must be a "backwoods-a@@ backwards" person that can't think of a comment. Who says that he was killed for being a census worker, it could be personal, or it could be exactly that, so until you have all the facts instead of all the speculation that's going on, I don't think you should comment about the state of Kentucky as a whole!!! And yes, I am proud to be a Kentuckian, born and bred!!!!!!!!!!!!

**********************************************************

My son said the exact same thing, sounds odd that someone would kill a person doing a census, looks to me like everyone needs ALL the facts before saying anything. I live in Texas and the same thing happened here a few years back with the Jasper dragging death, and I wondered the same thing, how on earth could people judge the whole state on a few idiots. It is not like any one of the 50 states are exempt from this, it happens everyday in every state, so don't be making such cruel statements, it hurts feelings and is so uncalled for. Some of the nicest people I know are "uneducated" and some of the most sorry, untrustworthy ones are "educated"....what is the point in that? Look at some of the politicans and preachers that are on tv in this country, did an education make them better people? I will take a good ole country person any day of the week, thank you!
