1952-Sen Richard Nixon facing calls to withdraw as Dwight D. Eisenhowers running mate, went on telvision to defend himself against allegations of improper campaign fundraising. The address which came to be known as the Checkers speech because of Nixon's on air reference to a dog given to his family as a gift, proved highly successful in rallying public support for keeping Nixon on th GOP ticket. |

Quote chychy65: Thanks KIR.... sometimes it would be nice if we could turn back time I loved that song. My mom was in her late fifties and had never listened to anything but country. One day she walked through the house and her my niece and I listening to it. She walked in the room and said she loved it and who sang it. That shocked us big time. This woman had never got past Conway, Loretta and George Jones and here she loved a Cher song. Way cool... |

I remember seeing the VH1 Behind the Music episode years ago. It was so sad what happened to your boy "the light skinned one"--Rob Pilatus, died of an overdose in 1998. Fab and Rob tried to release an album with their own voices but it fell flatter than a pancake. edited--OH, almost forgot...the names of the real singers were Charles Shaw and Brad Howell. |
