Crystal Lee Jordan (Norma Rae) died of meningioma, a form of brain cancer that she had been diagnosed as having for several years. She had been struggling with her health insurance company, which had delayed her treatment...

She was an inspiration to many, and how she died is truely sad, but what do we know about Obama's current health reform plan to say this would not happen again?
The discussion that goes on in the corporate owned media is full of nonsense, and no real details or analysis.
Plus, from what I remember during the primary the health plan that is now being put forth is what Hilliary Clinton was endorsing, and Obama said he was against; a Massachusetts type plan.
I firmly believe we need health care reform, but I believe we need a health care system that is going to work for the people, and not just increase profits for the health insurance companies.

Even if the president got his way, and his reform was passed do you really think it'd make a difference? Look at the waiting lists in Cananda and England. imo it would have been worse. Yes the system needs an overhall but they are going about it the wrong way.

imo these are what needs to be worked on(because for me it causes headaches)
1.Medications (hubby has seizures and we spend $200 a month on his meds(+ he's laid off right now so that doesn't help either).
2. Co pays I pay $20 every time I go to the doc. $30 for specialist or eye doc.(I always try to plan physicals @ income tax time so I can pay for it. 5 people in my house so thats $100
3. Every year what I pay (from my check) goes up but my coverage gets crappier (whats up with that)
If he can get me a FREE plan that is similar to what I have now Im all for it but heres my question @ who's expense is our healthcare on? The tax payer?

Also I think if the Gov would step in and stop letting frivoulous law suites that'd help too! Ex. the person who sued Mcdonalds cause their coffee was to hot. (Um hello of course it was hot you moron you didn't order an ice cofee!!) If they could sple that issue I bet It's put more $$ into making healthcare better.

I agree there needs to be some tort reform, and from what I know that is in the plan. If the government was able to provide adequate healthcare for all citizens, I would have no problem paying a higher tax for it.

I pay $90 dollars every other week + $6 every other week for dental. I can't afford to pay anymore!! Give me a rite care type program (medications and co pays are covered) for that price and I would happily sign up!!

I don't think the tax would exceed $2,304 annually. Not really sure....
Would like to hear more about the expected costs, but I don't believe the current plan even offers such a type of plan. From what I know single payer is not in the plan, and the public option may not be either. Basically we are supposed to be getting the same health insurance plan, but the HI companies are supposed to be offering it at a lower rate.
What I do not want is for the health insurance industry to get all the benefits, and I am stuck with the same plan that does not cover catostrophic illness without a huge deductable.

Im actually applying for rite care(state health care in my state) Hubby has been out of work for 7 months and he keeps getting worse so it'd be more $$ in my check + better medical. also on the up side I won't have to bounce a check to take my kids to for a sick visit(for ex.) and I can get new glasses and take out the contacts(only supposed to wear 3 months) Ive been wearing for 2 years. + if the kids are sick it'll pay for over the counter tylenol cold medicine etc. Sweet! Luckily we qualify.

Being self employed is worse. Our premium is $500 a month. That is for catastrophic. Deductable is $3500 per person. No meds, no ER, no office visit coverage at all. That is all out of pocket. They pay nothing until the deductable is reached. My daughter had an MRI, it was $1000.

Did anyone actually see the movie 'Norma Rae?'

What do you think about the need for unions and quality healthcare for its members?

I;m in Canada, and I have never heard of these "wait lists" people claim we have. I'm not trying to debate you, but not one single person I know has ever had to wait for any kind of necessary treatment. If it's an "elective" treatment certainly, but never something as life threatening as cancer. I LOVE our heath care system and thank GOD for the man that gave it to us!

I know you are right Tammer. I have several friends in Canada and they could not be happier with their healthcare. I know of a family who actually went to Canada just to have surgery. The friends I have say that there has NEVER been a wait time for anything medically necessary. And anyway as myself and many others have said on here. I WOULD rather die waiting to see a doctor than just die at home knowing I can't even hope to see one. Wouldn't a person rather wait for a drink of water than just be told no you are not getting any water? So people should not knock the only hope some have of "living"... Tammer, I am very thankful you, your family and your loved ones are blessed with a chance for the medical treatment that others are LITTERALLY dying to have. Cheers to Canada!

Same here in Au Tammer waiting lists for elective surgeries but certainly not for life threatening illnesses never heard of anyone having their chemo cut off because Medicare won't cover cost of treatment pretty sure our media would go into a frenzy if anything of the sort ever happened.
I'm glad I can walk into any doctors surgery in the country not having to worry about the cost.Thank you Mr Whitlam
Just out of curiosity are your prescription medicines subsidised by the govt like ours are?
