yeah i saw it..... 10,000 fine... dont know what else is supposed to be done.... calling that foot fault was what put her over the edge.... i think kim was gonna win anyway, but you never know... serena always had a temper... but they make it seem like she is the only one that ever has... Mcenroe had plenty....

i know they were saying that she shouldnt play doubles, but why make Venus suffer....

Yeah. I think she should be allowed to play doubles but I think they need to force an apology. I mean she threatened her physical violence and she didn't apologize to the woman. Kind of sad.

I agree with you Chy. She is being treated like she is the first to ever do this. McEnroe would have gone broke if they had done it to him. I can't help but feel she got it worse because she was a woman.

Actually Johnny Mac did face consequences to his outbursts. the difference between the 2 is that he swore AT people but he did not threaten violence against them there is a difference between using the f bombs and telling someone you are going to shove a tennis ball down their throat. she deserves whatever fine they give her and she needs to apologize.

also - threatening someone does not equal passion as she claims that's all it was.

Well what do people suggest. Never let her play again... now if she had hit the lady, then i would have said something more severe....

But people feel different about things.... But hopefully she will have a year to think about it.... and i know she feel even worse cause she lost her chance at possibly getting to the finals....

There is not one among us who has not at some time lost control and said something they should not. I know I have. Fortunately we don't have as much riding on it when we say it. Imagine if everyone that ever said something like that was totally condemed. That would be a heck of a lot of us. The factor in the pressure of what she was doing and the toll it has and was taking on her. She honestly thought it was a bad call and was costing her what might have been what she has worked for all her life. Admit it or not a lot of us would have snapped under pressure a long time before she did.

The bad call did not cost her everything that she worked for all her life, her reaction did!! I have gotten upset many times in my life, said things that I should not have said, but then again I am not someone that is in the limelight, looked up to by many people, that should be a good example for young people, and I don't think that I ever told someone that I would do to them what she told that lady!! Threats do not help your case any. I just heard on the sports on tv,that she set womens tennis back a 100 years.............hope that is not the case because many women have worked very hard to get them where they are today, be sad that one outburst took it all away..the thing most people are upset about is the fact that she did not see fit to apologize, she might have by now, but that should have been the first thing that she did... Hopefully she has learned from it and it will not harm her in anyway because she has put a lot of hard work into her tennis playing!!

i started this thread to disccus and debate the fine and potential consequences levied by grand slam counsel. i think we are doing a good job of that.

however i think people are making excuses for what Johnny mac said himself was inexcusable. yes i know i have said horrible things to people that should have never been said but atleast to me the main issue is she has NOT apologized. she shows no remorse. and there is a big difference between having a bad day and yelling at someone and threatening to shove a tennis ball down their throat.

Look who doesn't get pissed off and say something that they regret later. Why do we hold sports figures and celeberties to a higher standard? Are they not human?
Who hasn't said to their kid or whom ever..if you don't knock it off I'm going to...fill in the blank.
Serena is human, and besides do you know how much money is earned not only from winning the tournament but from endorsements and magazine covers etc? Just imagine you were about to lose your whole years salary...wouldn't you be a little on edge? Cut the girl a break..PLEASE!!!

I don't blame Serena for being upset and hope that she isn't banned from the US Open because it would be incredibly boring without both the Williams sisters competing for the top prize.

Also, I think there is a huge double standard, or should I say triple standard, when it comes to a woman, who happens to be a woman of color, NOT able to express anger and frustration without someone thinking they are about to die or get killed...

McEnroe and several male tennis players display anger and bad manners, and society lifts them up on its shoulders in praise rather than revolt.
